Whats up guys. I'm trying to find a copy of Samurai Showdown Anthology for PS2, but its fetching quite a few bucks on ebay, and its sold out everywhere. Before I drop a lot of money on it, I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the quality of the emulation, namely, the graphics. My Fatal Fury Battle Archives has scanlines and none of that filter bullshit that all 2D ports seem to have these days. Can I assume SamSho has a scanlined picture as well? Thanks guys.

bilinear filtering is optional.
Remember Zero Special isn't including in this compilation in case you're looking to play that (same goes for the PSP version)

THere's a huge thread about it at SRK.com is case you want (or have the time) to look at it:

How do you turn the filter off? I just bought a used copy today at Gamestop, and it doesn't have the "focus" option thats listed in the manual. Am I missing something?

Should be at the option menu under the same menu where you pick the games.

Which version do you have? I have the US PS2 version, and I'm not seeing an option to remove the filter. Its a blurred mess. I just have the A&B screens to choose from (which does nothing to remove the blurriness), but I had that in Fatal Fury Archives too, along with the focus option. Do I have to put in a code or something?

I don't get it either...this was the only compilation anyone gave a shit about. Well, that and Metal Slug. Someone please tell me you can turn this stupid thing off in Metal Slug. I mean, they include the option to turn the filter off in every single game up until the big one, then they remove the option after almost a year worth of delays...why? I guess I'm a little bitter after what I just paid for a $15.00 retail game :blow_top:

Jesus FUCK why is this game so hard to find/expensive now? I grabbed it for $15 new on Amazon...now it's $80-100 everywhere. For that price you could get I-IV on MVS for kernow's sake.

I like how you substituted kernow's name for an expletive.

I bought it on the Wii and thought it was terrible. I returned it the day I bought it. Graphics were done right, but the game was too unresponsive and 6 was not worth my time.

Argh, just got Metal Slug Anthology and sure enough, you can't turn off that fucking filter. It says right in the manual you can, but its not an available option. Just one question...who the hell thought it would be better to give us a blurry-ass shitfest than the original graphics?. Give me my pixels and scanlines or suck my ass.

They decided to make everything bigger for no reason, leaving extra details around the original frame of the screen that can't be seen anymore. They left it alone for the Classics collection, but I only played that the weekend I spent in Florida away from my collection.

Upon further inspection, I can see why they didn't include the option to remove the filter...the games aren't rendered with scanlines like the Fatal Fury Archives. What would result would be a pixelly mess like Street Fighter Anniversary, or well, Samurai Showdown 6. I would rather the pixellization to be honest, but I can't figure out why they didn't use proper scanlines to begin with. I mean, it worked for Fatal Fury Archives, World Heroes, Art of Fighting...They obviously realize that we wanted the graphics done right for those other games, so why change it? It like when Capcom fucked with the graphics in 3rd Strike for Dreamcast, a mere 3 months after the best-port-in-the-universe Double Impact. There was no reason at all to screw it up...it was perfect to begin with, and nobody complained about it. This blurry filter shit has to stop.
Don't get me wrong, aside from the filter, the games are perfect as far as I can tell. Its just that SNK really missed out on what could have been the best Neo-Geo ports ever. Bummer.

yep
I start to think that SNKP does not even really know what the fan base really wants
it is not rocket science but they don't know or don't care
