hokay

I have a one slot that I bought about a month ago on AO - Its always worked fine in my AWSD cabinet and has been as quiet as a mouse, works 100% fine.

I get my new cab, EII and in the test menu when theres no other sound it makes this squelchy, fizzy interference that it doesn't do in my AWSD. I get a friend to take it to his house and try it in his EII - does the same thing. I get him to bring his similar 1 slot over and its silent in both my cabs.

Pointing to the motherboard, maybe its got something wrong with it, but how is it silent in one of my cabs and making funny noises in the other? Maybe the EII is more susceptable to it, but it definitely seems to be the motherboard if the other one my friend brought over doesn't do the same thing.

Sound works fine and everything in game apart from you can still here the mild interference in the background, and definitely in the test menu when theres no other sounds going on.

that's actually quite interesting indeed. Have you tried cleaning the JAMMA pins?

Nah, its an MV-1FZ and my friends was an MV-1AX

I've cleaned the edge connector now with electrical contact cleaner, and an eraser. It still does the same thing. So no idea. I'm leaning towards it being the board as my friend tried it in his E2 and it did the same thing, and his 1AX doesn't in either of ours so ..

funny how it doesn't do it in my AWSD though.

Well that is nteresting. I was also thinking it might have been the JAMMA audio versus MVS audio thing as well. But that doesn't sound like that should be the case.

Well, the MV1FZ is Jamma.

Kern, try turning the volume all the way down on the 1 slot to the point of a whisper - then turn the gain up in the cab.

Maybe distortion in the speakers.

That's a good suggestion.

Could be there is a difference in the impedance in the speakers between your two cabinets and the two 1 slot boards you tried which is causing feedback on the EII.

What are they?

4 ohm?

What could be happening is that the board is turned up to the point of distortion and even though the gain on the amp in the cab is down, its getting fed a strong, distorted audio signal.

Honestly not sure what the different candies use. I've only ever gotten real personal with a buddies MV-U4 and it was so long ago I don't remember what the speakers were rated. Most of the stuff found in cabs in the US is usually 8 ohms.

I will try that next time I unplug the other board, it was pretty low volume already though.

Impedence wouldn't cause an issue like that. Does the hum get louder/softer if you place the MVS board outside of the cab?

I'll have to test tomorrow, pretty sure its the same effect inside or out though.

Does the EII have the same stereo harness like the E29? There was a small molex that causes interference with my 1fz when it is plugged in, but when I disconnect it all is well.

hmm, do you mean a 4 pin connector or something? that doesn't plug into anything though does it, especially on a mono 1FZ ..

I don't get how it did the same on my friends E2, but his 1AX on my E2 and his is silent.

If moving the board around inside/outside the cab affects the hum, it would be some sort of interference issue due to the board....but that doesn't seem likely. Perhaps it is a ground loop issue caused by wiring on the E2 as well. Is it a low hum like a 60Hz hum? Or I guess 50Hz where you live. Does it change based on what is happening on screen, or just a constant low hum?

its not like a hum really more a squelchy fuzzy noise in the background, almost like a radio isn't tuned in. My cabs run on 110v via stepdown transformers also, and my friends near identical one slot is silent on it.

There should be a stereo/monaural switch on the service panel:
monaural - would be for regular old JAMMA stuff like your MV-1FZ
stereo - is for Taito FX-1 and F3(according to the Egret II manual:))

So yes any 4 pin harness would be for the stereo output harness on a board like the Taito F3 or Taito FX-1, you would use that harness and put the switch in the stereo position.

Your mono MV-1FZ would just run off the edge connector with the switch set to monaural.

All correct and I know all of this already, therefore the connector isn't connected to anything and the switch is set to mono already :)

Thought I would add my 2 cents. I have the exact same issue as Kern. I just bought a MV-1FZ, and the thing looks brand new. I plugged it into my Egret II and got the same sound that was mentioned here. Like a badly tuned radio signal going in and out. Certain graphics on the screen like the grid in the test menu will make it go away; then when I switch to another test screen it comes back. It will also come in during a game and certain screens I hear it and others I don't.

I also hooked it up to my Astro City and had the same issue. Turning the gain on the board down and up on the cab doesn't help all that much. You can still hear it but its just more faint.

Could this be a frequency thing? It's sounds like interference on the board itself to me. The same issue will happen when a sound card on an integrated motherboard is too close to other parts and cause interference sounds through your speakers.

Did anyone find an answer to this?

Sounds like it may be worth sepearting the video and audio grounds with a small cap.

I'm pretty sure that noise is normal for the mv1-fz. I took mine to a friends house on his New astro and it didn't make the sound. I think it may just have something to with the electrical current in your house or the current going through your cab. I've tried 3 different fz boards and they all do the same thing.

bah

It was fine in my AWSD though , silent (the last one not this one)

this one is especially loud in my E2. I might see if I can swap it for someone elses where they aren't using it in an E2 , or something.
