Did anyone ever see this unit? I remember Chad Okada aka gamelord telling about it on one of my visits to SNK at Torrance. He said the controllers were made of metal. He played one on a visit to SNK of Japan.

Thanks for the info! I always loved going to SNk and talking with Chad about the Neo rarities. They had a copy of last resort with no slowdown! They also had a caged area with all their stickers and posters!

I wonder how often the controller needed to be replaced on those hotel units?

The joystick internals are pretty solid, but the actual plastic casing is pretty weak and prone to cracking.

ARe you sure? They look just like the stock plastic old style sticks that we use for our AES systems.

If that's the case, a metal old style stick is a true collector's item!

I was told by Chad Okada that they were metal. He brought it up one day in his office while we were playing the unreleased version of Top Hunter ( forget what they called the game before it was named top hunter). He had a 27 sony PVM with a NEO hooked up through rgb cable. Those were the days!

I made a few visits now and then to SNK to check out their new releases or to pick up games. I owned a mail order store called Visual Rush. It was Neo Geo only. I would send people who ordered through me stickers from the MVS machines. SNK employees just through those stickers in the trash. They had a caged area with all sorts of neo geo goodies, like stationary, merchandise, posters, marquees, etc. Chad had a nice Sony 27 inch PVM with the neo hooked up with a stereo mod and rgb. He mostly liked to smoke cigarettes and was bothered by all the phone calls. They had a lot of MVS machines in their warehouse. The best thing I ever saw there was a video tape of an unreleased version of a 4 player world heroes! I saw it in action and it looked good, but no release. It was supposed to use that link that league bowling and riding hero used. SNK sent me a christmas card one year with all the characters from samari showdown putting ornaments on a tree.

I was one of their customers. I sold their games.
The computer desk I use now is completely covered in neo geo stickers.

yeah, please tell some more stuff... sorry for my dumb question but who actually was Chad Okada?

edit :o kay, I searched the net and found out that he was the Game Lord... and that he had a holy status... what did he actually do?

edit:I found an article (<a href="http://gamelord.org/staff/snkhistory.html" target="_blank">SNK History</a>) its SNK's history with little comments of Chad "The Game Lord" Okada... what a lucky man... SNK hired him... and also let him choose his own title

Lucky indeed! SNK when to a temp agency and hired him through them, according to chad. SNK had regular phone operators before he started as the gamelord. SNK of Torrance was a 2 story building with main offices upstairs and the warehouse and gamelords office downstairs. The lobby had a receptionist and two mvs machines, freeplay of course. It also had some neo geo posters. The receptionist later became chads girlfriend and thats a whole other story. The back is where chads office was. He had a desk, bookshelf, and a 27 inch PVM. Nothing really rare inside his office, but out side his office was the warehouse. The warehouse had all the goodies. There were hundreds of MVS machines and cases of home systems and cases of games. They had the caged area with all the posters, stickers, stationary, apperal, etc. Then their was the techs space. the had a couple of mvs's to mess with and a tv/vcr combo that chad would show me the lastest demos on tape from SNK of japan, this were the infamous 4 player world heroes was showen to me. After chad left, he when to work for sony and SNK replaced him with someone named George.

I guess that most guys who check into a motel/hotel in a hurry have Neo as the least thing in mind.
