and Choko, also from Mitchell. Isn't Vampire Savior 2 unable to be phoenixed? Thought I remembered reading that somewhere.

Yep. Vamp Sav 2 and Vamp Hunter 2 can't be. The ones that were only available in one or two regions can't be because he needs the different region roms to compare against each other to see what's encryption and what's code.

So, Mighty Pang, Puzz Loop 2, Choko, Vampire Savior 2 and Vampire Hunter 2? Any others? What about the CPS2 single black boards? Is it possible to phoenix them?

So far- no on the black boards. I think they use simms.

The black ones have been phoenixed but it requires special equipment. Mainman is on the case, though. There are a few Japan-only cps2 games that can't be phoenixed, also.

Actually VS2 can finally be phoenixed. Not sure when exactly Raz got what he needed to do them, but he can. I had mine done last month.

Might want to check directly with him to see if can possibly do VH2 as well. It might be in the same boat as VS2 now.

If that's true then that's sweet! I would only need to worry about my Mighty! Pang then.

This is a little off topic; I was wondering if anyone has tried to phoenix their own cps2 boards. I have a couple that I was going to try it on. It seems pretty straight forward, but I just wanted to see if I could get a little insight on this from someone whose done it before I get in the mix.

Vampire Hunter 2, Vampire Savior 2 and Mighty Pang! can be phoenixed.

Off the top of my head I know I cannot currently fix the following; Rockman 1, Puzz Loop 2, Choko, Jyangokushi and Quiz Dreams.

I heard that Mainman is not able to fix the black cased CPS2 boards, anyone know anyone that can?

Not right now, this day, this minute. My NUMBER ONE problem
has not been a technical one, but a logistical one.

If your impatient I will just share my finding with you. The simm on the all in one and 3 of the simm on the cps 3 boards use the same flash roms. Go pick up your cps 3 board, Look at the simm modules on the left hand side, last three rows. All the flash roms on the simm are identical except for one key factor that is the kick in the butt here. The 29F016-90PFTN is a standard package tsop why the adjoining 29F016-90PFTR has a inverse pinout. Now with the proper adapter my burner could burn a 29F016-90PFTN no problem. The 29F016-90PFTR is not supported in my device list and the 29F016-90PFTR is the chip the all in one use. Another vital note is although the device is 48 pins only 40 are used and the other eight are NC

I could buy the OEM adapter for the TSOP package for my burner and just make a adapter for the adapter to burn the 29F016-90PFTR but the OEM manufacturer want $150 just for a TSOP adapter for christ sake. So I opted for the cheap approach initially and bought a universal adapter off ebay and tested with a the standard pinout 29F016-90PFTN which is supported on the device list and it did not work. Turns out the manufacturer designed the software to only support the custom pinout of their OEM TSOP adapter so that was money down the drain.

After during the grunt work I have discovered it comes down to the fact that the cheapest way for me to accomplish this is by upgrading my willem programmer to support burning of TSOP and just outright replacing the the flash roms with two 40 pin standard pinout 29F016. The only obstacles are I don't know which chip without being able to read the originals contain the odd data and which contain the even data

Here the logistic issue, I do not use paypal and all the parts I needed have come from China, so this whole time I had to ask Xian Xi to order parts for me after I mailed him a check, good guy to put up with me especially considering he has more important issues to address at the moment. I had two dead donated all in one boards sent to me thankfully by Mitsurugi-w, one has extreme water damage and is a lost cause and the other looks good except some of the solder joints on one of the custom IC look to be also possibly damage, but I hoping its just my eyes. Additional I'm at the point of do or die since I invested substantial funds in this project already and I still have one more final expense to pay raz. So I'm waiting for parts now. In the end Raz not me will provide the actual phoenix files, I'm just doing hardware.

Mainman:

Thanks for sharing your findings, thanks for the hard work and good luck. Let me know if I can help in anyway. Didn't mean to come off as impatient, if I did, sorry for that. I appreciate the work you do and have done for the community and for the CPS2 collectors, such as myself. When you are able to phoenix them, let me know, I've got a SF Anniversary I'd love to get phoenixed.

I don't kinow if this can help you out, but my dead black board has the following TSOPs on the Sim:

HN98F1600T10, the sticker reads MVC JA

Unfortunately my burner doesn't support them either (it has 29F010 though) . I was thinking about building a simadapter out of an old motherboard with sim ports.. but I guess that would be useless.

That's super rare anyway.I only know of one person who owns that board.

The guys above and below your post both own it, Chief is yellow, my board is green. I used his pic because I didn't feel like dragging my board out
