replacing battery of 6 slot MVS mobo

Recently my cab doesn't remember the soft dip settings anymore, which sounds to me to be due to a dead battery on the mobo. It's a 6 slot MVS board. I looked around (hardmvs, this forum, google, etc) and found great help for all other types of boards, but not the MV-6F. :oh_no:

Can anybody please tell me which battery to look for and where on the current board the dead battery is located?

The battery is on the bottom board in the 2 board stack. You'll have to disassemble the set to get to it.

Also, the battery is above the foam backed red cardboard insulator. This insulator keeps the battery energized portions of the board from short circuits.

The typical barrel type batteries used on the other MVS boards will not fit on the 6 slot board. There are pins from ICs mounted above the battery on the top board that will pierce the insulation on the battery and short circuit it. Use a small cordless phone battery pack and double stick tape and you can fit a replacement in the spot where the original was. OR... you can lengthen the wires on the cordless pack and use some double stick tape to fasten it elsewhere to the MVS boardset.

Thx for the info, but could you be a little more specific on the battery? Will just any small cordless phone battery work? Could you give an example of such a battery, please?

Wish I could bring you the board to fix it, but I recon you don't live in the Netherlands...

How many hours a day do you play your Neo?

Also if your PCB feet are long enough you can invert the battery and mount it from the underside of the PCB.

Well, I guess on average I play about 20min a day on the cab. Rest of the time it's off.

Invert the battery == turn it upside down? I just made a picture (see below), I guess a battery should fit underneath, but what's the gain? Does it make the engineering that much easier?

20 minutes? Then it is pointless to have a rechargeable battery on your board. It's probably best if you do a battery mod instead which uses a non-rechargeable battery so you don't have to play a lot to charge the battery.

Inverting the battery just lets you use the same battery on the other boards but if you want a battery with higher capacity then a cordless phone battery would be better BUT like I said if you only play 20 minutes a day then it's pointless. You need to play a couple of hours to charge the battery or leave the cab on.

3.6v 60 to 80ma rating.

You can go higher ma ratings like 120ma, etc... but it'll take longer to get fully charged.

You should let the cab run for 24 hours a month if you want the rechargeable battery to stay charged. If not, do the mod and go with a non-rechargeable battery.

Xian Xi has the instructions on how to mod for a non-rechargeable battery.

So we're talking about the battery mod on this page -> Arcade -> Accessories ?
How does this fit on the 6slot board? I see a tutorial for the 1 and 2slot boards...

And... in one of those tutorials it says that there's a rechargeable battery originally... any chance it will recharge when I have the cabinet turned on for a couple of hours? (didn't use it a while lately, because I was very busy wrapping up my studies)

It should fit the same on a 6 slot board as a 2 or 4 slot board.

He probably just didn't have a 6 slot board laying around to take pictures with.

Ya I don't, as long as the 6 slot has the same distance between the 2 holes it will fit.

It's the same coin stack type battery as was used on the 4 slot boards.

Thanks a bunch already, dudes. You've been an awesome help thus far. I hope that from this point on I'll manage.

About your site, Xian Xi: it's very helpful and well-done, but I think that the pretty popup-system in which the tutorial shows aren't Google-friendly. In hindsight I'm surprised I didn't find your site before I opened this topic, which must be due to the prettiness of your site.

Hey RJ,

Is it the same as the new style 4 slot or old? I believe the old style 4 slot the holes were about 2mm farther apart than the newer.

Ya, since it's javascript heavy google can't take you directly to a div unless it's been written out in text. We plan to have a search feature on the site but that won't help the google thing.

I thought the battery had the exact same part # on both boards... I'll check on a couple of 4 slot boards I have here for repair.

Wouldn't hurt to try. Try leaving the cab on for 12 hours if possible maybe more. It may charge and you may not need to change it. If it does charge then make sure to recharge it at least once a month like they said before. 20 minutes a day won't charge it.

Also you could always leave just the board on and the monitor off.

I left the cab on all night, and it seems to work. The settings are still there after the cab is turned off, so the battery must have been recharged! Nice, I didn't even have to take the cab apart to fix this! :D

Now I can finally redo Puzzle Bobble-highscore and SamSho2 battles with friends! :dragf::B:
