What causes this? Is this caused from use or does it just happen with time?

yup thats right. same reasons sanwa and seimitsu's crack. also something to do with being on too tight. i've got a seimitsu bubble top with some cracks in it. sorta cool since you can see through it.

Over time they become a bit more brittle, and with use, they will eventually crack. It is a combination of both factors, actually.

One trick with Sanwas is to use a type of spray paint (it is actually spray gloss epoxy) that is designed for hard use appliances. It effectively creates a shell that will stand up to any kind of abuse you throw at it. I use it when refinishing my arcade CP's, specifically on the curved edge that people tend to slam the hell out of when fighting SNK bosses. :D

You can get replacement balls for AES sticks on ebay (in different colours like black, red, green etc). I think even brand new AES sticks (that have been in storage) can have a cracked ball.

Mine is also cracked, right down the middle. It doesn't effect anything, so until it actually breaks, I will leave it on.

I actually take the ball off for shooters. Feels better control wise on Pulstar to just have the 'shaft' in my hand (god that sounded bad! haha)

Thats the reason why I'm asking. Say someone had a brand new aes system stored away , lets say for 17 years boxed in a attic, is it possible for the ball tops to crack over time.

I also noticed on all my aes sticks that right above the start and select button there are these 2 hair line scratches. All my aes sticks have them. You have to put them up to a really bright light to see them. Is that factory thing.

Its plastic, and plastic over time gets brittle, so I wouldn't imagine its any stretch of the imagination that a barely used controller would have damage in the ball top

sanwa-lb30n-01.jpg

Will a Sanwa LB-30N fit in for Neo Geo AES joystick?
Looking at the picture, i'm afraid the joystick shaft is not long or high enough for the Sanwa LB-30N...

Anyone using or have the dimensions of the LB-30N?

Thanks in advance

Why would you want one of those horrible things? Put a ball on it like it's supposed to have man.
