Hello!

I'm considering just buying this product for use in my Neo Geo "Big Red" cabinet rather than trying to add a wire to enable -5V audio on non-Neo Geo PCBs.

http://www.jammaboards.com/store/ja...3ff68f529742=3986e2a0edf99e4efb18281de34a2cf3

Will PCBs like Hyper Neo Geo 64, CSP2, etc works on this without getting fried or anything bad like that?

Thanks!

(Just got Rockman Power Battle PCB, wanted to make sure to get the most out of it.)

Those vary in pinout. You could run adaptors into the jamma-MVS ... just have to see that whatever you are attaching to your main adaptor is jamma, else you will need to get it to jamma first.

But let's say one I have does. Will this thing works with it?

Hyper Neo Geo 64 requires it, correct?

64 doesn't.

I believe that the jammaboards one has pass through on the -5V line so you should be fine if you were to wire a -5v line into your MVS harness.... but you could always check the pinout of the adaptor and/or email them and double check. They are usually pretty quick with replies.

Even if you add that adapter, you have to add a -5V line from your power supply to either the adapter or the harness.

I.e., in order to use my Super Dodge Ball PCB in my cab, I had to both run the -5V line from the power supply to the harness (spade connectors at the power supply, soldered to the harness) and use the adapter you linked.

I have that adapter and some things work great with it, other things do not. CPS2 works fine, most Sega/Technos games work all funky. Data East boards usually have screwed up sound. It just all depends. All in all I'm pretty happy with it. My MVS U-4 25" cabinet is my Neo/CPS2 cab which works fine for me except for Dimahoo and 19XX.

Your sega stuff...is it system 16? If so you would need another adaptor to feed it into the jamma one.

So the extra power, uh, "plug" on the board itself isn't for -5V? (You have an option to buy another cable that will plug into that board and feed it power.)

EDIT: Quoting from the store:

Store said:
** J1 Stereo Input cable is not included. If needed, they can be optionally added when adding this adapter into the shopping basket (see below).

** The J1 Stereo input cable uses 4 color coded wires, approx. 2' in length, and professionally crimped into a mating Molex 2.54mm 4 pin connector. This type cable is only needed for connecting stereo audio from the JAMMA PCB (assuming the JAMMA PCB is capable of producing stereo sound and has a separate output connection).

Even if you add that adapter, you have to add a -5V line from your power supply to either the adapter or the harness.

No... that is just for audio and not for power.

Either way, you wouldn't have -5V in your mvs harness so you would need to still run -5 from your PSU to your MVS harness regardless of what's on the jamma side.

Okay, thanks for clearing it up.

Resurrecting this thread instead of making a new one.

I'm looking at picking up one of those converters; just had a question or two.

I have an unmodified MV-1 Big Red. I want to (eventually) use this adapter to 1) Play CPS2 stuff and 2) Play TMNT (Konami), preferably with the 2Player ROMs.

Will this run both of these without modification? JAMMA boards, I think, are mono; this thing says something about "audio isolation". I basically just want to make sure that if I plug a JAMMA board into this converter (especially those two, but perhaps more in the future) then into the harness (and no other steps) that I won't blow anything up and that also the mono will be "split" across both speakers.

Even better would be if it could come out of the headphones of my added-on MV-IC board, but that one's just wishful thinking and isn't actually that important.

EDIT: it also says "Adapts standard JAMMA single speaker audio for the MVS cabinet dual speaker setup." I just want to be sure I'm understanding what that means. The audio cable from the MV-1 is not part of the main JAMMA harness -- is that what the molex connector on the adapter is for? Specific details about installation of the adapter would be great (even thought it does look quite simple).
