Euro Mega Drive Troubles

I got a UK Mega Drive, and when I hooked it up, (With US Power supply and RF Switch) the picture comes out Black and White. What could be the problem?

Seems your TV set isn't compatible with PAL signals.

Not to mention the 50/60 Hz issues. I don't see the point at all in trying to use an European Megadrive in USA.
