Graphics problem with Fighter's History PCB?

I recently bought a Fighter's History board on eBay on the cheap. Really cheap, as in $5 plus shipping. The seller stated that the board was tested and working, so it's possible that something may have occurred during shipping. The board works, and functions like you would imagine, but the backgrounds are screwed up with garbled graphics. It's akin to what you would see when a dirty NES or SNES game that would start up with graphical glitches requiring you to blow on it and clean it with an alcohol swab. The main difference here is that you can blow a JAMMA board or swab it with alcohol to my knowledge. What else could cause this? A loose EPROM?

first thing to do is clean the contacts with alcohol. then check all the capacitors on the board and make sure none of them are visibly broken (especially looking at the legs) look at all the different kinds of capacitors for visible damage like chips and cracks. replace or fix as needed. you can also remove all the socketed chips and reseat them to make sure they are all in properly.

thats all the basic stuff I would start with.

Thanks for the reply. It sounds difficult as it is something I have never done before. I need to know what can be detached and cleaned with alcohol.

you could send it to Channelmaniacs here on this forum. he fixes boards. however I read a post that he's behind in repairs. you can contact him and see what he can do for you. maybe board repairs are not something you want to mess around with lol
