I ended up buying a Super Neo 29 this week for a pretty good price, but it definitely needs some work.

I plan on repainting the control panel and all the yellowed plastic back to white. Looking at the control panel, you can see the original overlay has been replaced with a horrible pink sticker (why?). Anyway, I really don't like the original crazy 90's art on the Super Neos.

Soooo, I really want one of the older MVS-U4 cabs because I like the blue and white color scheme, so I photoshopped this together.

I plan on putting a pc with Mame and a jpac encoder in here. The nice thing about the instruction sheet space is that it already has holes for buttons, so I can put some Mame admin buttons in without making any extra marks on the cab.

Question is, what does everyone think?

Definitely much better than the pink sticker and not too bad IMO. I've always liked the MVS-U4 cabs as well.

Turning a candy cab into a mame cab? That just feels so wrong.

I don't know why so many people love making mame cabs, I'm not hating though people like what they like I guess.

for me it's just not the same. I want original hardware and I like having the carts, and jamma pcbs.

I'd just try to find an original repro overlay or a whole new panel personally, they aren't impossible to find.

Not a fan of that photoshopped layout.

Was it the previous owner who put that pink sticker on? :oh_no:
If it was i hope you paid him, then punched him in the face :hammer:. Not that nice things cant be done with PS but factory control panels are built to take abuse and hold up. You'd have to find someplace to get you design printed on a heavy vinyl. I noticed Lordstar from Arcade Otaku is working on a project to make vinyl covers (1mm thick) for fighting sticks here http://forum.arcadeotaku.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=5540 but maybe..maybe he could do a panel overlay. Couldnt hurt to ask.

As far as cabs go, I already have 4 of them. I have my high res Blast City with my Naomi, my Egret 2 for all my cave pcbs, a Big Red Neo Geo 4 slot, and my big ass wooden Mame cab for all the other games. In order to fit the Super Neo 29 I'll be getting rid of the big woodie :)...so my Mame pc will be going in the Super Neo. I'll be using a jpac and the original control panel, so I won't be modifying the cab at all.
I really just don't like the original artwork on those cabs. I won't have bought it except for the fact that I got it for $250.

Thanks for the suggestion Nip, but I was going to go with http://mcs-arcade.com/ for the overlay. He made a really nice vinyl overlay for my blank egret cp.

Agreed, the button layout in your shop does look weird.

About the overlay, do what you like man. Your money, your collection, your machine. Your overlay looks good, but I personally ditch the player 1 player 2 thing.

Rock and roll, enjoy your Super Neo 29.

I think it's the arch that looks the weirdest.

I have the 2L16B panel. I could trace it for you if you wanted?

Also I just realized we are friends on Flickr. :lolz:

This cab is still being finished–have to paint the upper CP portion and I'm done. But this should give you a better idea of how the buttons should be angled maybe.

Hey buddy. That is the angle I'm using, it just didn't turn out perfect in the shop b/c I was more focused on the design.

Yes, Mame is the devil, the as long as it doesn't hurt the cab, I don't see the harm in it. Far too many games out there I enjoy, but can't afford...
I'll do my best not to create a huge Mame marquee with Pacman on it ;)

I got my Super Neo in last night and it looks like I won't be creating a panel overlay afterall. The pink stickers peeled right off the control panel and the original artwork is still in very good condition.

I will still need to clean the hell out of this thing and probably repaint in some places. I also need to remove the wooden stand that was built for it, but it looks like the wheels and adjustable legs have been removed :( Oh well
Overall, I'm really happy with this cabinet and hope to have it looking like new in the not too distant future.

Did these cabs have 7 button control panels by default? seems wierd for a dedicated MVS cab.

Very lucky you had the original cp underneath though ! nice.

I've always wanted one of those. :(
