slug 4

well i know im very late and i dont mean to start any arguements..but ive finally had the oporitunity to try out metal slug 4...and as sad as i am to say..i was not impressed in the least

ive never been at all disipointed in any other slug games and i always have a open mind..i expected megaking to do a good job...which is why im so suprised and disipointed in this game..

this game should be called "metal slug collection of sprites" or somthing ..it totally lacks the very beautiful backgrounds of every other slug game...lacks the humor aspect....the new characters are like old characters with a swapped heads

and number one reason why its a bad game is its just not FUN at all! its impossibly dificult...past the point of being challenging...to the point of taking a hammer to the cabnet

so yeah...if you havent played slug 3 or 4 and planning on buying only one of them...buy 3...

However.....
The music in MS4 rocks you like a Flippin' hurricane!

Now If only they had spent an equal ammount of time on the graphics. Guess there is always the highly probable Metal Slug 5.........

Exactly how long did you "try out" Slug 4?

Give it time. Play it for some days, and then think about it again.

I don't give a damn what "the majority" thinks about this game, I think it's great because it's actually a Slug based on the original idea of whacky militarism, not a great looking Halloween show.

1, X, 4 are cool. 3 is a piece of art, but if the whole game would have the action of level 2 and 5, it would be so much better. Somebody wrote about the "scene to scene" gameplay, and that I think is the biggest gripe I have with it.

Slug 4's bosses could be better and some of the backs are a lil' uninspired, but overall it's cool. Monkey mode is tops, medal system is super tops, nice challenge.

Slug 4 may not be up to the level of the previous Slug games, but it is an EXCELLENT game in its own right. I think you didn't spend enough time on the game, made a quick first impression and gave up. As for me, I heard all the bad press early but kept an open mind, and in the end I really like Slug 4 and am happy to have it in my collection. Sure it has reused sprites and backgrounds, but there is enough new in it in style and variety to make it worth owning. Oh, and as mentioned by toy_brain, the music KICKS ASS!!!

My view of Metal Slug 4 is controversial to say the least... Ok, well it's only controversial on these message boards, as my good gaming bud agrees with me on this. I think it's the best game in the series. Yes, that's right. Why? Why DMHawkmoon, why?! Ok, well it's the most fun. Less things than in slug 3? Sure. Definitely. No doubt. Reused graphics? Absolutely. No argument. There are a lot of new backgrounds, mostly new in fact, but mission 2 is pretty much all reused, for one.
Here's where it gets me: The challenge begins early and it stays hard. Wheras I can easily beat the first 4 missions of Metal Slug X without losing a life, on Metal Slug 4 you're in danger of death even on mission 1. The last form of the first boss particularly can be tricky, especially if you want to wait for the hostage. By mission 3 you're in grave danger of death, and it stays that way the rest of the game... WITHOUT BEING CHEAP! Metal Slug 3 has the cheapest fourth boss ever, for example. I never have cheap deaths on MS4. In fact, MS4 requires a lot of planning and thinking about each area before you really master the game. I still don't have a good technique for the rope lowering section! And how about on mission 6: to turn into a monkey or not? You can use the monkey for your benefit, but then it makes it harder later on before you can revert back to being a human.
I also like how to max out your score you have to go by foot always and get the combo bonus things without a slug. That's a nice touch. (You don't get the bonus if you're in the slug)

This game is great gameplaywise. I love it. My friend agrees with me. All the slugs are awesome, but part 4 is just my favorite. I'm tired of hearing the same old lame reasons that people give for not liking it a lot. It's as if people are afraid to give an opinion other than the general consensus. Even the people who like the game always add that, "It's not as good as the others." Sure it is! I don't miss those shmup sections from MS3 at all!

EDIT: Let me just add that my friend is actually the one who was crazy for MS4 first. I didn't convince him of it or anything. He was sorely disappointed by how easy MSX was, and he for some reason never seems to enjoy playing MS3 with me. He doesn't think it's as fun. I didn't ask him his reasons. After some time off from the series and contemplation, I find that I agree with him.

I tend to take a holistic approach to this. imho you need to know all the games in the series in order to fully appreciate any particular one. My fav changes with my mood. To cut a long story short they are all superb, I wish people would stop bagging or making excuses for #4 it doesn’t need it.

ive never read anything about slug 4 up till i played it and i played it totally unbiased..i had high expectations perhaps too high..i dont think my opinions on the game are ignorant in anyway and i dont give a damn about the majority of ppls opinions. i played the game and wrote my opinions on it is all

it is true i did only play for about an hour.and i couldent really hear the music very well..music in some cases can make or break a game

but at the end of it all i was disipointed
im not just trying to fit in by hating slug 4 or somthing..and i pitty anyone who would do that

You are ignorant in that you called the game not fun because it's "impossibly difficult". That's crazy because you only played the game one time, right? It's not fair to say a game is impossible without practicing it.

many people try a game on emu and then bash it...

you should try the original version (AES/MVS) and play a little longer...
