I looked around a bit and haven't found an answer yet... so don't kill me.

I've seen a bunch of AES cart lots for sale on eBay and elsewhere - you know the ones where they say "Brand new! Sealed - Never been played! From a country that felt the need to scribble all over Nam 1975 with a sharpie!" in the description.

Was someone sitting on a bunch of unsold stock for 10 years, or is something more nefarious going on?

Search "Neo Geo AES" on ebay, it will generally be your first hit.

Just curious...

Just not popular games and also VERY common.

The sharpie was from regions where they can not show a woman's naked skin including cleavage.

Good to know.

So they generally are originals, but just commons and third rate games. Some of those sales are probably worth it for the two or three good games and shock boxes alone.

I just asked because they are generally so cheap, and all of the sellers use the same copy and paste descriptions.

Thanks for the response!

how did SNK end up with so much unsold stock? did they misjudge the demand?

I've come very close to pulling the trigger on one of those. I guess I need to get my AES first :)

Well, usually those auction come with a system, one kidney controller, and 9-11 "NEW SEALED GAMES!"

When I first started seeing them, I assumed that they were reproductions of some kind.

It's how I started buying AES games. First one was Magician Lord. The game looks really brand new to me. Nonetheless, it can happen that the neogeo sticker peals off when you get the game. I assumed that it was due to the age of the game and the dust effect.

I think it is reasonable to assume that all those games can be genuine because they are mostly from the early days of the system so probably the guys in charge of the demand forecast for the US went overboard so some brand new units are left unsold.

They (SNK USA) probably addressed the forecast well cause the later games are rarely found new.

I do not think it was too much of an issue for SNK cause they sell the game to some distributors and then up to those guys to sell the games. And games makers prefer you to buy a brand new item rather than a secondhand one so I would assume that leads to over produce rather than the opposite.

It just means there's a ton of these games left over. Geez, I remember when nam 75 was like $80 for a beat up copy before that stock was found. I think those are great deals on some of the early marquee titles.

I remember Nam1975 being one of the most popular titled back in the day. It's one of my favorite games.

Lots like this one are actually very good deals. They aren't reproductions of fakes of any type, just old unsold stock. The AES was nearly dead on arrival due to the price tag, really only kept alive 'til the bitter end through fan support and SNK's own dedication.

Prior to the NOS flood games like NAM 1975, Alpha Mission 2, and euro Ghost Pilots fetched fair prices. Thinking about it you'd have been fortunate to get any of those games for under ~$50 shipped. The games will never be rare in AES terms but this NOS isn't going to last forever, so I say get them while the getting is good if you want them.

Its typical "what was the most popular" games that get tossed in the bargin bin because of so many copies that were circulated. Anyone remember Super mario/duck hunt nes cartridges....they were 10cents a piece at funco land.

All them games that are brand new are typically the common games on ebay, the same ones over and over..and obviously most were quite popular.

I just bought alpha mission II sealed for $38 shipped. The guy has more than 10 available x2 auctions. SEARCH NOW IF YOU WISH TO ADD THIS GAME TO YOUR COLLECTION :360:

"Alpha Mission 2 (dog-tag only) 45 -70 U "
