Does the UK spec NEO GEO run all carts?

Well, as far as I know (I've never owned an AES so I can't be sure) the Neo Geo doesn't have any country protection so all carts will work in all consoles, so that means that an UK console will play any game no matter if it's Jap or English. In any case a UK console will play all the games in English and at 50 Hz unless you do some modifications.

There's no lockout, but sometimes the carts (being the same carts often worldwide) look at the machine's country setting. So you may find you put in a jap cart and get english come up. Unfortunately it can also be used to change things, like lack of red blood.

acutally, I read a post where some EURO MVS systems would play the spanish sounds. Basically, the way it works is, the only difference in the systems is the bios chip. Some games look at the BIOS and make small changes, like the language, and the blood content, based on that chip.

don't take my word for it, but I know you can change BIOS chips in the MVS, so you could probably do the same with and AES, but I'd check with someone that knows a little more about the bios in an AES system first.

hope this helps.

KOF2001 will have bugs on a UK AES. <img src="graemlins/annoyed.gif" border="0" alt="[Annoyed]" />

Quite agree - but on the front of the kof2001 box it tells you NTSC only

This may sounds like a stupid question but how can you tell where your machine is from? I don`t actually know if mine is European or American but whatever it is it runs at 60hz through an rgb scart lead. The box looks the same as all the American ones i`ve seen too.

While i`m asking about this people keep mentioning the serial numbers. What relevence do they have (i heard someone make a reference to 'good serial nimbers') and would that help tell the region?

Sorry for being a bit dumb but i`ve had my machine for years, but its been packed away and i only got it out and dusted it off the other day. :)

Hi all games play on 60hz neo, to tell if it is euro remove 4 screws from the bottom and if it is usa there will be a link on the ntsc jumper, if it is european you will see the where the pal link has been snipped off, kof2001 will run fine as mine is european 60 hz and this game runs perfect

I'm playing KOF 2001 on an unmodified PAL-AES and i can't find any bugs. Only that you can se graphics outside the borders sometimes, but that goes for magician lord as well.

Metal Slug 4 and KoF 2K1 won't run properly on a PAL AES, or so I've been told.

PAL AES doesn't run at 60hz althought the console can be modded...

I don't know why anyone would want a PAL AES anyway...

Tarma, PAL is better quality than NTSC. And for all itents and purposes (to you) they're the same thing when modded.

The way to tell if its PAL (even if its been modded) well the 0k resistors won't be there. Snipping them is just sloppy workmanship by the modder. To REALLY tell, look at the oscillator. If its PAL spec, the console is PAL. For *TRUE* NTSC you'd have to replace this too, but modern TVs won't grumble.
