Alot of reviewers give this game a 10 (see above link for one example).

I had the game back when i had a turboduo back in the day, and while I liked it - it wasn't a 10 in my book. I always spent way more time playing Blazing Lazers. No way I like it more than Thunderforce 3 or 4. I gave it a go again for the first time in years and feel exactly the same. Not bad, but not the "perfect shooter."

Just me or is it overrated?

I guess it comes down to personal preference. I would much rather play Gates of Thunder than thunder force 3 or 4.

But I like 5 better than 3 or 4. So my opinion probably isn't worth too much.

It's not overrated at all. That was a serious console shooter back in the day, and none of the Thunder Forces have got anything on it, in my opinion.

Damnit I somehow thought this was news about a Gates of Thunder remake.

I still love the feel of both Thunder games. Definitely brings back awesome 16-bit memories!

Gate of Thunder always felt like a more polished Thunder Force, especially with the CD soundtrack. A bit on the easy side, but I am not going to complain of that in my advanced age and deteriorating game skills. I think it was the first shooter that really wowed me and made me wish for a SNES CD attachment that never materialized.

Sincerely,

Mikhail
