Advance Guardian Heroes is

one of the most satisfying beat 'em ups ever.
played it for the first time in years tonight and beat it in a sitting; that CRUNCH sound whenever you land one on an enemy just feels so good, so right. I never even bothered to use my magic attacks.

Love that Counter system, too.

I liked this when I was 16 but it came out just a few weeks after Astro Boy: Omega Factor which was totally controlling my life at the time, so that's probably why I was a bit disappointed with it (I've still never played the original Guardian Heroes....god I know I would have loved that game). But tonight I was really enthralled, it's so excellent.


I know the story isn't that important here but I always thought it was cool that it basically made the bad ending from the first game canon and that you have to fight the heroes and get their souls to become stronger. Also cool is the final boss which is basically countering a huge ball of energy against the God of that world and exploding him. The game's got some creative ideas.


but yeah it's a real shame most people kinda shrugged this game off and a lot of reviewers game it middling scores. I wonder how many bothered to unlock all the characters (I had forgotten I did myself).

Meh. It was OK, as long as you don't compare it to the original. Nothing great about it though.

Better than I originally expected given the hardware it was placed on for sure.

Why they opted to start the game with such generic-looking characters is beyond me.

Original deserves a true sequel though.

Or at least a version on XBLA/PSN.

Thought it was fucked up how the character you're playing willingly gave up his life so that a dead warrior's soul could inhabit his body and save the world.

Yeah I dislike the main character design as well.

Treasure's so cool with their stories.


PS Genjirou is the man

Is that true? Does the game really say your character dies when the holly warrior posses him?

And yeah, Genjirou kicks ass in both Guardian Heroes games.

well if his soul wasn't lost when he becomes possessed then he's dead fo sho when you see his corporeal form explode in the ending.
