well people, i think i wanna start collecting some jpn AES Metal Slugs games, and i was wondering i much should i pay for each one of them, i have this doubt because i have seen great diferences in prices between them, for example you can find metal slug 3 in near mint condition for 290 US and in other places the same games going for over 350 us.

I really like to hear some of your opinions.

greeting to you all

I remember when you could find Metal Slug 3 for a song, but that was many moons ago. This is a very interesting release because of the famous 2nd Release that is missing the SNK phone number in the manual. Contrary to what market value would have you believe, the 2nd Release is actually rarer than even the US version. The US release goes for quite a pretty penny. Depending on the condition and version of this particular game the value can vary greatly. ^_~

Well, Metal Slugs vary greatly. I got my JPN Slug 5 for around 450 US. It is Near Mint. But I've seen it go lower. I've also seen it go higher.

I can think of a dozen better uses for $450 than Metal Slug 5.

Get a cheap AES and a super-converter or get a cmvs for cheaper and just use MVS carts. Either way, you'll be playing the same game. Other than that, it's quite pointless getting an AES seeing how expensive some of the games are.

i guess you are totally right, and i have considered that option too, but cmvs are not cheap either

It really depends on your preferences. If you are a collector and just want to play games with the original format, get AES games. If you just want to play the games in a more inexpensive sense, get MVS. If you think that both options are way too out of reach, Neo CD is your best option. However, be prepared to face high load times with the CD system.

Edit:

@Annatar:

It depends on where you go to get a CMVS. You can get the system at an average of $275 and the games generally run between 20 - 100 dollars based on rarity if you just want the carts (Of course, it costs much more to get the original kits for such games, but you see my point). AES games can range from 20 - 3000 dollars based upon rarity and expect an average of paying at least 300 - 400 dollars for a game based upon supply/demand.

I bought some rope, booked the flight, all I need now is your home address. No seriously, where do you live:smirk:

What he said, in addition to the fact you might as well bend over brace yourself and bite down on something to ease the pain of the impending rapes that are sure to come. Go MVS man, its to late in the game for AES

I also think a lot of it depends on patience. I've been an AES only guy for years, and my collection while small, has been built on waiting around for a good deal to come along. Collecting AES carts, and to a growing extent MVS stuff as well, is best served by keeping an eye out for exactly what you want, and at a decent price. I've just gotten into MVS, and it actually has a similar market flow, albeit at a lower price.

Of course, this isn't always true, and I think everyone has a story about a cart they've desperately wanted come up for sale, and jumped at it without regrets. It really depends.
