hi alls
ive been out of school for awhile now regretably and i wish to take a course or two i narrowed it down to a electronics based corse or graphic design..because i wanna build some more arcade sticks and a super gun and stuff..im thinkin electronics course but what i dont want to do is accedentally pick a electritian course and learn how to wire up light switches in new houses and crap..u know what i mean?

so basically the stuff id use as a arcade tech..

im gonna read a few of theese class descriptions out and if someone could tell me which would be usefull to me it would help alot...

im confortable soldering and all that cuz i did some dc mods and built a custom arcade sticks and a bunch of stuff..but i dont know the terminology and stuff..i just dig in and do my buisness...even though i dont know what its called :) im sure most of yall tech heads started out just as i did...taking shit apart and such

anyway back to what i was saying..heres the classes

electrical theory I

analyze and evaluate the effectivness of basic electrical circuits. topics include findamental priciples and terminolofy of electrical energy system. ohm's and kirchoff's laws, energy and power generation, ac principles and pasors for AS circuit analysis . fee includes course materials

electrical design Level 1

Applies fundamental concepts of electrical design and drafting to electrical installations including distributon and branch circuits. Electrical code requirements will be discussed in conjunction with the design project, and drawings will be complimented using AutoCAD release 2000 and an auto electric software package

electrical principles

introduction to electrical principles , concepts and relationships. covers: circuit analyysis; voltage and current sources; resistance, capacitance and inductance; steady state and transient responce. The labs suplement the theory by using basic circuitry and computer simulations to illustrate opperational and analytical concepts. on demand

so any ideas what about be best for me?
thanks alot in advance...if this topic isint in the right place im sorry..move if u like

electrical theory I and electrical principles sound good.

Be sure to pay attention to the "findamental priciples and terminolofy"

I agree with Briggs. The electrical design Level 1 class has more to do with what an electrician would do, not what an electronic tech does.

I don't agree. Electrics IS house wiring etc. You be looking for electronics.

However, that's not enough for arcade repair. What you want after a basic understanding of electronics is a TV repair course.

Well, if he is just going to build a supergun and joystick stuff, TV repair would be overkill.

Break it down this way:

Arcade wiring - pretty much the same as house wiring. Power supplies and switches. An arcade button works about the same as a light switch.

Arcade PCB repair - this is WAY more hardcore. This would be where the TV repair type stuff comes in. Capacitors, resistors, circuit board level stuff.

It really depends on what you want to learn. I would assume that any kind of TV repair level class is going to assume that you know how to wire a switch up.

Just my thoughts.

None seem to have much to do with electronics, I would go for electrical principles it seems to offer the fundimentals..

What sort of career do you have in mind ?

Anyone can change a lightbulb :)

The 1st selection DEFINITELY!!
that fundamentals will just talk about what makes ekectricity..just a boring outline..something TIME LIFE books would sell you....like reinventing the wheel..who cares where it came from..It's here and now you want to use it to your benefit.
