DC Third Strike resets itself right before a match???

So I just purchased a copy of Third Strike for the DC off eBay, but I can't get it to work. It doesn't matter if it's practice mode, arcade, versus, etc. The game will reset itself immediately before a match is about to begin.

I don't see anything on the disk (scratches and the like) that would make me think it wouldn't work, and my DC has no trouble playing other titles. Is this a common issue, or did I get hosed buying a shitty copy of Third Strike?

Never had that problem myself, but I haven't played an official DC 3rd Strike in quite awhile.

Does your DC reset on anything else or just 3rd Strike? The laser in my DC sucks, or its the drive, but it freezes quite often, especially on homebrew stuff, but I've never had it reset on anything. It seems really weird but I'd bet there is something wrong with disk. Check the back of the disk (label side) and see if there are any big scratches on that side, as the foil in disks is closer to the back where the label in than the read side. Hence labeling CDr's with a ballpoint pen ruins them.

There is a custom disk out there with Marvel vs Capcom 2, Capcom vs SNK 2 and SFIII 3rd Strike all on one CD with a custom launcher, the DC web Browser, plus a ton of other goodies. I got sick of housemates leaving my official disks all over the coffee table and burnt this one for them instead :-p

When you say copy, is it legit or CDR? Some CDR media doesn't burn as good as others. When I used to make backups for all my NeoCD and Dreamcast games I noticed Sony's didn't work that great but those Black Memorex ones were perfect.

I chose my words poorly. It is a legitimate copy of the game, and I haven't had luck with it.

Finch's post got me digging though, and now I have nothing to complain about ;)

Thanks for the help guys, this can be locked up.

if by digging, you mean finding that combo disc, then good luck!

I found it maybe 5 years ago. it had a very specific name, I'll see if I can find out what it was called. I don't even remember how I got it, probably some now defunct file sharing app.

LOL that is a shitty problem. My 3s disc did the same thing. The tiniest scratch in just the right spot will cause this problems.

I am a huge Sega fan and retarded Dreamcast fan so it hurts me like damn to say this, but maybe its time to upgrade to PS2 3rd Strike.

Since you geek over arcades just like me, I won't feel like an elitist twat to remind you that nothing holds up to the CPSIII game.

Best fighting game ever?

If by combo disk you mean the disk I just burnt with Capcom Vs SNK 2, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, Third Strike, Super Street Fighter 2 X, Super Puzzle Fighter 2 X, and Ikaruga (Why this is included, I have no idea), then thank you!

I told you I have nothing to complain about :lolz:

Although I would like to get a copy of Alpha 3. . .

I really wish I had the cash to drop on a CPSIII set-up, but for the moment I'll have to settle.

The reason I've been so into Dreamcast as of late is because I'm hopping to put one in my Egret 2. It's hard to beat with how many great titles are available for the system.

Someday I will get the real deal, but in the meantime this will have to do. What's worse is the fact that I sold my twin stick and have resorted to play testing the game with a pad:hammer:

I had the exact same resets with my jp 3s on DC. First it was just 3s then cvs2 as well. One week later the GD Drive crapped out on me.

All sorts of wacky DC problems in here.

Last time I used mine, getting it to boot involved lifting the back right corner 1/2" above the table and letting it drop sharply onto a hard surface. Otherwise it sat there seeking constantly.

Had a friend with a PS1 where it would only read a disc if you opened the lid, and spun the disc as fast as you could with your finger, then shut the lid quickly before it lost momentum.

Who said the days of blowing on cartridges were gone...
