Did they even use solder or just epoxy those MX chips into place

If it works, they did use solder. My friend who was modding playstations professionally back in the day had a customer buying a chip from him, taking it home and then he hooked it up with... glue... And then came back bitching about the chip not working. And no, I am not shitting you.
