Question about Euro Release AES Carts

A couple of years ago I purchased a lot of Euro Neo Geo games from Telegames.

These were all sealed and I never opened them. Recently though I sold one game to someone who actually opened it to play the game.

They informed me that the manual was brand new and in English but the cartridge had a Euro label stuck over the Japan one.

Also when playing the game on the JAP system it played in Japanese (I think that's correct though isn't it, it won't play the Euro version unless played on a UK Neo Geo or have a Debug Bios or similar?)

Can anybody confirm the above is all normal or is something dodgy going on?

Cheers

yes, all of that sounds normal. it was common for SNK to just cover the original Japanese sticker with an English one, and sell it in an English region. Any region AES game that u put in a Jap AES(with the original Jap bios) will play in Japanese.

Every AES and MVS game has data included on the roms for both Japanese and English language (except for some obscure mahjong and quiz games, which only have data for the Japanese language).

Western markets have always been used pretty much as dump-places by SNK. :)

Man, I wouldn't have offered a refund. He opened the game, and all was well.

I know, I was a bit pissed because the game had been opened and obviously devalued it. But the guy raised a pay pal dispute so left me no choice.

Pay Pal take the buyers side nearly 100% of the time so didn't seen to be worth the hassle.

aaah telegames. That brings back mid 90s memories
They had an absoultely huge stock inventory, and their carts were all very expensive but unlike raven games they were friendly enough. The guy from raven games was a potatoe faced little midget with a bad attitude.

Yeah, I had a similar issue with a brand new Samurai Showdown - Euro case and manual with a sticker over the origianl Japanese one.

Telegames are still in business. I bought my AES from them a couple of years ago. I collected it to save postage but rather than go to their warehouse they met me in a pub car park, wierd huh :conf:

Their stock is still really expensive but occasionally they'll list stuff on eBay as "consoleclearance". Very friendly and helpful blokes.

Thats completely normal, SNK often did it to get sell the game in other regions.

Is that the guy that runs the company? I do remember a Hobbit type person working in the shop.

I have only been to Raven games once they had some great gear but quite expensive.

I've never been to Raven Games in London but I have bought stuff from them on eBay. They trade as Firedance games I believe...

I think the guy may have wanted to preserve some confidentiality as regard to his warehouse/security system cause if he welcomes you in his warehouse, if you were to be a thief, that would be a great way for you to assess the best way to get in.
that's why when inventory has a high value, some owners tend to keep the location of their stock confidential.

Yeah, I figured the same thing.

It made me smile though, buying my first Neo Geo off a guy in a car park :)

That's what is great about UK: if it's not happening at home, or at the office, or at the football stadium, then it's happening at the pub!
I love that, that's the only way!
