Yeah I saw it, very sad indeed. I always looked forward to his new videos, he had such great content and personality. I hope when he gets himself sorted out he decides to come back, even if his video posting volume is drastically reduced.

Saw it as well, I've been watching his vids for awhile and it's sad to see him in this perdicament. Hopefully everything will go well from him.

Well Video Games are his life and passion. Obviously the wife and kids are important but they have to understand that you cannot take this man's hobby away.

I saw the video, and I think that it's sad that it even got to this point. However, something just doesn't click, and for obvious reasons he's withholding information. Some Japanese women are funny like that. If you own more than two games and systems, you get labeled an "otaku". While people glorify the term here, in Japan it is another way of saying shut-in loser to some people. My wife is Japanese as well, and she gives me crap over my hobby, and is worried that my game collecting will an adverse effect on our daughter. However, since I don't smoke, drink, or party she's come to terms with my hobby, and realizes that it is just that. A hobby, nothing less, nothing more.

With that said, I find it unfathomable that Luke's wife would leave him over some games, because he's had a significant game collection for years, so it's hard to believe that there would be a single game purchase that would finally drive her over the edge. Maybe he used all of their savings for the stuff he showcased or maybe he maxed out the credit cards. No one knows for sure.

Well there is a fine line for sure... I think it is quite fathomable that someone getting too involved in something and ruining their life or parts thereof. Drug use could be a hobby for some and can easily cross over to destroying that person's life. Same could be said of anything really. The point is, it wasn't "some games" at this point. Sad as the situation is, I think it is an example of how we all need to keep a checks and balance approach to everything we do and partake in... requesting appreciation for ones hobby from a significant other is well within reason and absolutely justified as long as that hobby isn't hurting you or those around you, but I don't see how it is 'unfathomable' that taking something so far could push away those around you. Take a look around, it happens to lots of people unfortunately like the spouse that works 70-80 hour weeks, or spends thousands a month on their 'hobby'. The best we can do is learn from those mistakes we and others make and try not to go there (again).

I just hope that things will cool off for Luke and turn around. I know that I would hope that if I ever got into a situation like his, I would certainly hope I could find the light and get my priorities back in line.... family.

Xiao, I agree 100%. I consider myself pretty hardcore as well, and when I went to those types of places in Japan, I found it hard to control myself as well. The only difference is that I have discipline, I budget myself, and I won't spend excessive amounts of money if my wife seriously objects. I think it (gaming) can become an addiction like anything else, so you must have some self control. I think the self control is what separates us (well most of us) from people like Luke. I really feel bad for him, and hope things turn around. The video was only days old, so he still has a chance to make amends. While I'm not an advocate of making excuses for strangers, we must remember that he lives in a foreign country with people that speak a different language, so it's unlikely that he has any real friends in Japan, which is why he's so into his hobby and YouTube account. In any case, best of luck to him.

Seriously, how much time could he of spent with his kid if he made a YouTube video for everytime he brushed his teeth?

Seriously - he's a fucking tool and needs a reality check.

The guy made videos of everything he did.

I think I saw a vid of him playing top hunter on the ngcd and it had more load times than game play.

He went over the top but pulling the plug completely won´t help it either.

lol, glorious otaku.

I think people feel mostly the same about it in the US. The concept just doesn't have the notoriety.

I could see this coming from a mile away. The inevitable crash and burn of over obsessive video game collecting. He had absolutely no self control whatsoever. Luke is a very good example of compulsive buying at it's very height. Buying multiple copies of the same game... just because? They looked lonely? When you have games literally touching the ceiling, I think it's time to take a step back and reevaluate what you're doing. I had a short stint of the video game collecting craze, but after awhile, when you start to have everything you've wanted to collect, and it sits there for awhile on the shelf collecting dust; then you start to think of what that money could have been used for. Thus this tends to be followed by a massive collection dump on ebay. I've enjoyed watching a lot of his vids, and I'll miss his little window into Japan.

I didn't know this guy before you posted the link, but I since checked out a handful of his videos and am fascinated. The other thing that is obsessive about this guys is his need to film and put everything on youtube. That took some major time investment. And what's sadder is some of the video responses he's getting from fans. Some of them make it out as if the guy died. I've seen much less crying at funerals for perfectly decent people. I guess I didn't find his tours of Japanese games stores particularly insightful since I've been in Japanese stores already myself, especially when he's just buying random Neo systems he totally doesn't need.

There were some good videos, particularly the ones about repairing things. He definitely had a knack for it. Of course we all hope he straightens his life back out, but it definitely seems like some of his fans have not learned the lesson you were talking about at the start of this thread.

Some of his subbers were messaging me to "pay my respects to luke", wtf?!?

Jeez, talk about overboard. He didn't die. He just left youtube.

Luke is a cool guy and will be missed of course but people should stop acting like he died. And I HOPE Luke doesn't do anything stupid.

Yeah... is very sad. I have a wife but she lets me play every now and then. My time has been swamped with work & wife so my videogaming time is like down to almost 0.

Sounds like he has a problem that can be solved...especially since he admits to his problem. He just has to stop swiping those cards on games.

It wasn't that he was just repairing systems or playing games on the side that was the problem, it was that he was making youtube vids like all the goddam time, to the detriment of the relationship with his family. In fact, He never even mentioned his family in any of his vids.
