Going to finally start assembling my CMVS tonight. Since I didn't feel like soldering directly onto the board I went with a 56pin connector from Jammaboards.com.

The board is a MV-1FZ and I plan to do the 5v stereo mod and run it all off a meanwell 5v 3a AC adapter with those standard 2.1mm barrel plugs. The Jamma connector has 4 contacts for +5v and 8 contacts for ground. Do I actually need to wire up all of these, or are they just redundant.

I figure its good to split the load across multiple wires, but it all comes through one wire from the AC adapter, and through one wire from the adapter to the power switch, so should I just run 4 leads from the power switch to the Board? What about running one lead from the switch to one lead on the edge connector and then jumping it with some short sections to the other 3 5v contacts.

I already read somewhere else that I should use 18 guage wire for power, so its not like i'm using really wimpy stuff where multiple wires would be better.

I would just run the power to the board itself since you are already going to be soldering stereo leads to the board.

Just take one 5V to the board and 1 GND to the board. If you are going through the edge via an edge connector, then I would spread the load out to be safe. I would at least do one 5V top and one 5V bottom and then one GND top and one bottom for each end of the connector.

To split you can take out from the switch, or you can run the switch to a distributor panel and branch out with wire jumpers or the little metal jumpers made for them. And yeah stick with nothing smaller than 18 gauge.

thanks, I think that pretty much answers it. I wasn't sure if all the +5v and GND contacts were connected somewhere else in the board, like something wouldn't get power unless I connected all of them.

They are all continuous. You can see if you check continuity. But spreading them out isn't a bad idea at all and might help to keep all the load off one trace on the edge, but rather dispersing across a couple there.

Still can just go to a cap leg right off the edge for 5V and ground to a nice onboard spot... then you can have just to wire run for power (GND and 5V).
