Sup guys,

I wanna put Point Blank (the light gun game from Namco) on a candy. How would I go about this? Is it even possible? Or do I basically need t oget the stand-alone cabinet?

I really like the game and I'd like to have it on a candy instead of the 300+lb behemoth that it normally comes loaded into.

Thanks!

Justin (N80G80) did this with house of the dead. You pretty much have to sac the gun game machine and add the sensors and guns to a candy. Drill holes in the bezel, and wire it from there. It's a good bit of work, but is very possible.

His House of the Dead 2 installed on a Blast City was amazing.

Wait wait wait... two different games here. What "sensors" are you going to use for Point Blank? I have that machine, and there aren't any (like the Sega shooters). So, this may not be accurate.

Point Blank is a JAMMA pcb so yes, it's very possible. Unless a gun game has dual sensors and can be used by HAPP gunboards, you can do a conversion of it. We have a Area 51 and Maximum Force done this way...also a Time Crisis with a HAPP gun with a soleniod kicker in it for kickback.

Well I was just referencing house of the dead (which has an array of 5 sensors on top and bottom of the screen). I actually haven't seen a point blank machine in close to 10 years.

I agree. I don't think this should be too much trouble.

From looking over the manual the only sensors appear to be what are found in the gun assemblies. Which is to say that it likely works a lot like your light guns used on the home consoles. Where both the sensor and emitter are located in the light gun and the postion tracking is all done by interpolation based upon the parameters configured during the inital setup.

But you already knew PointBlank was good simple fun ;)

i used to play hotd2 on my dreamcast in one of my candies. its alright, but it is kind of low. the direct view is nice compared to the usual mirror set ups though.

Word guys! Thanks for the tips. Knowing it doesn't need any crazy sensors like Virtua Cop and HotD makes things a LOT easier.

I found a Point Blank cab with a dead tube around an hour away... I'd keep it and use it but honestly, it's just to big, heavy and cumbersome and I have zero desire to deal with it. lol.

Since I have the entire cabinet, I'll just strip the parts, fabricate a cp to mount the gun holsters to and go with that. The height issue is... interesting, but nothing a few cinder blocks won't fix ;)

I'm also just thinking about buying a dead Point Blank board, getting Ray (channelmaniac) to fix it and get the guns secondhand, wire it up myself.... we'll see.

Point Blank is fucking awesome. :)

Again, thanks for the help, and if anyone else has any ideas, do let me know!
