What's reccomended?

I have Guwange, Progear, Ikaruga, Strikers 1945+ and Blazing Star
I just got Espgaluda II (should arrive next week)
And I'm getting Ibara Kuro: Black Label.

I've heard Battle Garegga is really good (and I think I might have played it once at SamuraiShodownSensei's place). And Radiant Silvergun has been suggested multiple times, I used to love this game back on the Saturn.

I seem to like Cave and Treasure's shooters the most. Any reccomendations?

Well with boards like guwange and progear already in your arsenal, you are off to an awesome start!

Here are some I would recommend based on those interests:
Dangun Feveron (double bold if I could)
ESP Ra.De.
In the Hunt
Progear No Arashi

Let me know if you get bored of that Guwange board ;)

If you want to take a break from some of the Cave classics, I'd recommend picking up shooters made by Raizing (later re-named 8ing).

Battle Garegga is a good start, but a tough find. Armed Police Batrider is probably my favorite shooter; highly recommended as well.

Ibara Black label is one of Cave's absolute best, congrats on landing that board.

all these PCBs are expensive, I suggest getting mame and downloading every shooter you hear discussed and give it a try. pretty much all of Cave's Atlus era boards are fantastic, I'd pick up DoDonPachi if you find it for a good price.

As for non-cave shooters, check out:
Cyvern
HotDog Storm
Metal Black
Pulstar (If you dig the R-Type series)
GunBird 2
Sengoku Ace
Mars Matrix

...and many more! :)
Welcome to the genre!

No dodonpachi love? :annoyed:

I know man, DoDonPachi is my favorite shooter of all time. DoDonPachi Campaign Version is the sex too, if you ever get a chance to play it. It was kind of like the first "Black Label".

What about the late 80s-early 90s stuff?

Omega Fighter
USAAF Mustang
Thunder Dragon 2

Just a few examples.

you reccomended progear when it's a game I have :loco:

I actually used to own Esprade and Dangun Feveron. Loved both, but wanted newer stuff. After a while, I'll probably pick up both again. Esprade was by far my favorite, Feveron was great as well.

And I don't think I'll be getting bored of Guwange any time soon :)

As for DoDonPachi, I've never played a game in the donpachi series. I was going to start with DDP: DoJ when I get a chance.

Battle Garegga and Batrider are definately on my hit list.

wasn't mars matrix a dreamcast game? I remember liking that a lot.

Espgaluda II arrived yesterday, simply beautiful! The CV1000 hardware is so small. Guwange could eat it.

SO how's it that you end up buying a galuda II if you know nothing about shooters? Word of mouth or something?

When I bought N80G80's cabs I bought his three cheapest cave shooters (Galuda I, ESPrade and Fever SOS). I had never played cave shooters before (hell, my experience had been Raiden II, Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga only.. I had played a Progear boot before [which is pretty funny since N80G80 had one as well]).

I knew there was a Galuda II (samshosensei had it) and I really wanted it as it had a lot more to offer over I.

So yeah, I guess word of mouth. I never would have bought the cave shooters if N80G80 hadn't mentioned them.

Yeah, Galuda II really makes you forget about Galuda I real quick. I think the same applies to most of their series. Mushi Futari makes you forget Mushi Sama real quick too and DDP makes you forget DP as well, but you can't forget about the roots man. For example play some Batsugun with Iceman and you'll get that DP feeling. I played DP before batsugun so it was quite teh treat to find Batsugun so reminiscent of the early cave stuff.

My favorite cave game still is Gwange though, that's a total masterpiece, but Raiden will always be on top of that, 'cause is raiden, is that simple.

Yeah, Raiden II is what got me into shooters. I used to hang out at a local community center when I was in middle school, and they had a Raiden II machine. I beat the hell out of that game throughout the two years they had it. I think I 2cc'd it a few times.

Guwange is tied at best with progear for me. They were the two had to have right now cave games for me. Progear and Guwange are both perfect in my eyes. They're a shit ton of fun, and absolutely gorgeous.

The last one I want right now is ibara kuro: Black Label which I'm getting in about a week.

Based on suggestions, I'm gonna try some donpachi series and battle garegga next.

I've played a few of the dreamcast shooters (I think I played mars matrix before,) like border down, gunbird 2 and giga wing (2?).

Mars Matrix is amazing, IMO it has a feel of Dangun Feveron to it, although the chips are only for powering up they do chain up rather quickly That's one game I defenatley want for my CPSII setup. If you like Raizing check Dimahoo/Great Mahou Daiskusen, the game is completely nuts. I like Kingdom Grand Prix/SHippu Mahou Daisakusen better but a lot of people don't 'cause of the racing element to it.

I don't know if you have played this or not, but if you like Battle Garrega, try this old shooter named Gun Frontier. It's my favorite shooter and you would probably enjoy it.

That's funny. I went in on that group buy for the Q25's that N80G80 was in charge of. When he delivered the cab I told him I wanted it mainly for shmups. At that time he said he didn't like shmups too much because they all seemed too similar. Maybe I had an influence on him.

When I met JUstin he just seemed like he was more into sports games and casual games like Monkey ball and stuff, he didn't seem all that interested in shooters, ok maybe street fighter and that was it. Good for him though!

I think it might of had something to do with the fact that he had that MIni Cute with an ESP rade stock in it 'cause he couldn't open the cab, maybe that did it! Once you play ESP Rade with some sort of dedication there's no going back!
