hi guys,

ive always liked the kof games but my problem is ive never played them seriously;ive always played fighting games like like they were streetfighter and i know kof has alot more mechanics to learn hence crossovers, diffrent jumping ranges etc.

im now deciding i want to take it seriously and learn to be a decent player on it ,dont get me wrong im not to bad at fighters but id really like to learn to play kof properly.

what is the best kof of the series to learn on, what type of things should i be trying out in training mode and whats the advantages/disadvantages of advanced and extra mode so i can learn wich one suits me best.

any advice would be apreciated.

thanks

for games 97 on,
chain combos become a staple of the series.
not everyone has it, but a majority of the characters do.
jumping hk -> hp -> forward + lp -> special
it adds more to the game with a little more length in the combos.
you also have the CDs which launches a counter attack
which can be done with the cost of a bar while blocking an attack
or the cost of nothing if you just use it offensively in a fight.
to me, the rest of it is just elementary fighting 101.

yeah all that.

get to know all the different jump distances and speeds and the executions for them. they are very important to your pressure.

98 is my favorite and generally argued to be the best. always pick advanced.

Are there any high-level players' vids on youtube that you guys can recommend? I'm not sure if the tournament scene is as hot with KOF as it is with Capcom fighters, but it would be cool to watch how top tier players play.

Ive always been a fan of KOF since 98. To me its more fast paced than SF. SF alot of the time can be a boring turtle fest. Not all the time, but in general.
That vid that was linked is a good starting point.
