I'm going to pick up a Super Nova, and i'd like to know what I need besides a 1-slot MVS board, and how does it connect to the Nova? Just plug it in?

Once you get your MVS system it'll all make sense. You'll just plug everything together, and turn it on.

Thanks to Mike I will be finding this out myself very soon I am sure a lot of these things that everyone talks about will make more sense when you actually SEE the Jamma harness and so forth.

The best way to go about it is to go to www.massystems.com and get one of their set ups. If you don't want to use their controllers, get a 2-slot which has the neo geo home system controller ports on it which you can just plug and play as well.

The only thing about the supernova and the two slot is that you might want to put a piece of particle board or some hard cardboard between the bottom of your MVS system and the Supernova because of the location of the nova's power supply. (it gets hot after a while because it was built to be run all day long)

If you don't, you may damage the MVS system which doesn't like it's bare motherboard bottom to touch the top of the supernova very much... Again, when you see it, it'll all make perfect sense.

I'm told that the graphic quality is not as good as an AES system, is that true?

Follow me for a pic of the set up:

Go to the links page on this site
Click on Nick the Fury's page(second from the top under SNK Japan)
Click on Neo Geo
Click on Running MVS on your television
Scroll down...

The composite is probably a half step down, but the S-Video is great!

One thing that will make your nova/mvs set up go sour is the fact that if you attempt to use one of the newer MVS compact 1 slot is that you'll get a jumpy picture, The game simply is not playable. I emailed MAS and they say the newer 1 slot is like that unless you buy it from them because they perform a modification on it before they ship it. Try to get either a 2 slot or an older 1 slot with the controller ports built in.

I heard that there are lines on the screen because it's not RGB resolution. Also, will the !Arcade! converter let you play the newest games?

The lines are not that noticable. If you have S-Video there are no lines at all...it is as close to RGB as you are going to get..

The super nova picture with the S video looks very good and is comparable to an aes with the s video. The !Aracade! convertor will let you play all games on the aes. Mike, do you know if MAS sells the new modified 1 slot boards? If so, how much?

The Nova's picture with s-video is very good. The one thing I notice though is that the white level is somewhat to bright. You lose a little picture imformation in some backgrounds because of it, like in Metal Slug X you can see outlines of buildings in the furthest part of the background but not much else. Same with some of the backgrounds in MOTW. Like the waterfall stage. You can barely make out the background waterfalls in the way back of the level. If anyone might know how to adjust the white level please let me know. Hopefully soon I will get a Neo Candy cab but the Nova is a fine system. I just need to get some more games.
