Playing Jamma on my MVS

This is probably a noob question, but I have searched all over the interwebs and only gotten a fraction of the information I need.

I have an MVS 2 slot. I love it. I don't know a lot about cabs or any of the technical stuff that goes into it.

I found recently that I can get an adapter to make my MVS play JAMMA games, as seen here:
http://www.jammaboards.com/store/neogeo-mvs-to-jamma-adapter/prod_198.html

That's all great, and I was going to buy that until I realized that one of the main Jamma games I would want, Street Fighter 2, is a 6 button game. So my question is, if I wanted to play SF 2 on my MVS, would I have to drill holes and install buttons to make it work? Is that even possible? Would I be shunned from this forum forever for drilling holes in my Neo Geo cab?

I'm just trying to get some information to see if this is a possibility or a fever dream.

I appreciate any help you guys can give me.

1) Wrong adapter... you want the opposite. If you have a true MVS cab you want a jamma to mvs adapter. That adapter you linked to would play your MVS mobo on a jamma wired cab.

2) Don't butcher up an original MVS cab. If it's a conversion, well that's another story ;) My 2 cents.

Get SVC Chaos for your MVS. That need for SF2 will go away with time. :lolz:
It really, really won't.

If you add buttons to that cab, I will find where you live and do very bad things to you. :spock:
I thought that might happen. I know you guys are all SNK purists. I'm not really, I just like games and got a deal. Maybe I will just trade it for a Jamma cab so as not to upset anyone. Then we can all get along. :)

You're a very bad person for considering converting a Neo into a SFII Jamma cab. You should honestly die.

I'm just kiddin', but conversion cabs were shitty back in the day when these machines were still being made. Don't destroy a perfectly good dedicated cab in 2009.

Please guys, tell me how you really feel...:)

OK. I will not add buttons to my Neo Geo. I probably don't have the skill to do so anyway.

So now I have 1 last question. If I were to buy a Jamma cab with less than 6 buttons, would it be a difficult thing to add buttons?

Usually the games that have more than 3 buttons have an additional connector and harness on the PCB to connect them. SF2 and similar 6 button games have a kick harness addition on the board. Wire them up along with a ground to all the buttons and you're all set. It is one of the simpler set-ups on game cabinets to perform.

Sounds easy enough. Thanks for the info.

If you're patient and have a good drill then all you'll need is a bi-metal hole saw in 1-1/8" If you're not a patient person then you might want to get a set like this It will keep hot metal shavings from going everywhere and make a cleaner hole.

OK, I have 1 more question. I sware! If I got one of those adapters I could play lots of Jamma games that only require 4 or less buttons, right? And that isn't messing up my cab or anything, so that won't upset you guys, will it?

Sorry for all the noob questions, I really appreciate your friendly responses.

Yes you can play other Jamma games that only require 4 buttons. If you're really worried about how people will feel about you drilling holes in the control panel than find someone on here to trade you a jamma cab for your MVS.

Don't forget it's your cab so you can drill it full of holes if you want to. You can always fill the holes in and put a new control panel overlay on it to restore it back to the way it looks now.

Hehe, yeah, it'll work just fine. I have plenty of 4-button JAMMA games that I play with that exact adapter.
