4 slot mobo is inside with several other carts (which ones I don't know), so far the only one that comes up (select does nothing) is Puzzle Bobble, and I can't open it yet. He said he didn't have the keys, which is why I asked about arcade locks earlier. But I hear the carts rattling around in there. I guess the other 3 carts got loose.

What got me was the price, honestly. He wanted $250, something HAD to be wrong with it. And sure, for all I know it's chock full of dead babies, weed (yee!) or cockroaches and rust, but this was a WELL TO DO guy. I picked it up in the very hoity toity part of the Austin hill country, he worked for midway games until he got tired and 'starte up his own game company and LAN arcade'. So the guy knew vidjagames, and he was explaining what Neo Geos were to me... lulz, and he still only asked $250. It might have had something to do with the fact he was moving to LA and just wanted it gone. He had 2 other cabs, a MAME cab and a Mortal Kombat II cab.

Glad to hear he was respectable. when i got my MvC2 Naomi Cab for $250 i asked the guy where he got it and he said "a guy owed me money, he didn't have any, so he gave me this". so i payed and left as fast as possible.

It's a beauty of a cab though. and for $250, i think you got a great deal.

Jealous rage. Consuming thoughts. Urge to kill. Rising. Rising. RISING. :blow_top:

ok, sorry you had to see that. Lost control for a moment. I had no idea there was candy lurking underneath that smarmy thread title.

Great find. I can't wait to see what's inside. Even if it's crap, the anticipation is half the fun.

OK, I want to start drillin' but I've never done it before so I'm a bit nervous. This is the drillbit I got, a Rigid cobalt 1/4" bit: http://www.ridgid.com/Tools/14-Cobalt-Drill-Bit/EN/index.htm

When I mentioned what I needed to do to the home depot salesman, he started saying I needed oil and a drill press, etc. Is there any special technique I need to know about before going about this and destroying this thing? Plus, there are like 20 locks on it! two under the CP, one for the coin door, one for the coin bucket door, one for the PCB door, and one for the back.

Wow... that's awesome. Maybe it was cheap because the rattling inside is AIDS?

Nah, awesome find, man!

In my experiance most of the saleman at home depot have no fucking idea how to do anything. I used a $2 bit and a $20 drill...no oil and certainly no drill press. Just drill dead center like we said and you should be good to go. I've never seen one of these in person, but if you drill the lock off the back you should be able to just reach through and untighten the bolt from the lock on the pcb door. There is a thread about someone drilling out the cp locks on this exact same cab kicking around here somewhere. If your really nervous about jumping into it you can always email the op of that thread and ask him for any tips.

Gl and keep us posted on what's inside.

damn I hate you.

Me too. :blow_top: But really, congratulations on the great find and can't wait to see what's inside. It's like the surprise toy you find inside a cereal box. Hopefully you'll get some great carts so we can be even more pissed, I mean happy for you. :D

Thanks for all the well wishes fellas! I opened it up finally. you were right D-Zero, no need for oils and drill presses. It took less time than I thought and I just drilled out the PCB door lock since I knew there would most likely be air behind it in case i slipped or went too far with the drill.

So I've got good news, and qestions!

First of all......... EIGHT CARTS were inside! I'm *pretty* sure there are no more that I can see. Carts in the slots and rattling around inside:

World Heroes (already had it)
Sam Sho 1 (already had it)
Metal Slug
Metal Slug 3 (blue case)
Aero Fighters 2
Puzzle Bobble
Super Sidekicks 2 (already had it)
Faltal Fury 1

The bad news/questions is I dont know if something is wrong with the board or the carts. For one, the select button doesn't work with the 4 slot, but I plugged in my 2 slot and the select button DOES work. Is there any special wiring needed for a 4 slot to work? If not, then that means only one slot on my board works, or something else is happening.

Secondly, the carts (even the ones I had before today) seem to display lines in the video, and unfortunately it's on my 2 slot as well. I'm thinking the board contacts might be really dirty, not 100% sure. I know it sat for a long time though, the guy said his kids never touched it.

So... it seems I'm going to be selling some carts sometime soon. Anyone interested in Super Sidekicks 2, Sam Sho 1, or World Heroes? Eh? Eh!?

Line issue on the games = dirty contacts. Clean them good and that should correct it.

Thought the 2-slot and 4-slot boards were the same when it came to the select option but I could be mistaken.

Well...not only is it a good buy but you have extra carts to sell to offset the costs of getting new locks on your cab. Looks like a win-win situation. Congrats :)

Thanks Arcademan.

After some further troubleshooting, I still have some odd issues. I have a KOF97 that I know works 100%. My 4 slot started giving me a crosshatch after POSTing, not even the Neo logo screen. Didn't matter what game I put in there or how many. No idea what's up with that. Now, even in my 2 slot my KOF97 works great but if I put any of the 'new' games in to the other slot, I start having issues. No sound, lines, crosshatch, all kinds of things. It's really weird. I have no idea if I have a bad 4 Slot board or just bad carts.

Also, I dont know if this will have affected anything, but about a month ago I was testing with my Atomiswave cab and I was trying to get something working. I wanted to make sure something worked so I took out my MAME PC and Atomiswave boards (the cab is wired for AW) and I stuck my 2 slot in there for about a minute, maybe. I just tested to see if it worked, which it did but i saw some lines on the games... would connecting my 2Slot board to an AW wired cab hurt the 2 slot?

Try removing the 4 slot cover and cleaning the slots. I know that the cross-hatch sometimes comes up when the board can't read the game. The select feature is also affected by dirty slots, if the board doesn't detect the carts then it can't select them.

Cool, I'll try that. I got the 4 slot working again, I guess it just is really dirty, but I've also tried having a cart in slot 2 and no others, 3 and no others, etc and they all eventually detect the game. Still, I gotta clean it but I'll have to do it another day, I gotta get some z's!

You might want to check the voltage readings. The 4 slot is a little more power hungry then a 2 slot board.

Thanks Chris!

So yet another update. I cleaned the 4 slot and two of my carts. One still wouldn't boot for jack squat (sam sho) and the other started working great. Select button just will not work on the 4 slotter. BUT, the board will detect carts in the 4 slots. I basically took a cart and booted with it in slot 1, worked. Slot 2, worked. Slot 3, worked. Slot 4, worked. But select won't work.

Any ideas? Decepticon-Zero you mentioned checking voltages, I have a multimeter but I'm a novice, what setting should I put it on (v-?) and where to I put the probes?

edit: scratch that, Sam Sho DOES work, I guess I just needed to reinsert it.

I don't know about you guys, but after I move a Machine, I don't turn it on without inspecting everything inside.
