So I have a 4 Button Neo Geo Candy Cab wired for Stereo and was thinking of getting into STV games however I wasn't sure if my cab would work.

I guess the only issue is if STV games are in Mono or Stereo as its all jamma in the end.

Also I wont be able to play any 6 button games as my cab only has 4 buttons. So i guess im limiting myself

If I were you i would get a neo->Jamma adapter. Should be pretty much just plug and play from there. The 4th button will do nothing, because anything over 3 buttons requires a kick harness. The only games you wont be able to play are some of the fighters, but that's a very small part of the library for the STV.

I thought the Neo harness was already jamma? I've plugged in Jamma PCB boards in before and never had an issue.

I was told that prolonged use pof a jamma standard board in an mvs cab fries something...I just can't remember what that is exactly. I would just buy that adapter to be on the safe side.

Neo Geo cabs are wired for stereo sound. JAMMA standard is mono - the thing that might get fried is the sound amp on a jamma pcb running it in an MVS cabinet. Install a switch so that your cab can do both. Here is a diagram of how to build one - it was posted by MKL in this thread.

I used it to build mine and it wasn't hard at all.

Thanks!!

I thought I read though that STV games are in stereo.

Also how hard it is to install a 6 Button CP? I feel like im really missing out on a lot of games without one. I dont even know where to start and I suck at this wiring stuff :(

The stv is not a stereo board, so you either need to do the mod or risk killing that sound amp. A far as six button games go, the only good games that require it are golden axe and groove on fight. The rest of the 6 button games are meh at best. Hardmvs has a nice dedicated section for stv games. Use that list and other resources to see if any of the 6 button games are even worth the pain or installing a 6 button cp.

Alright I wouldnt want either of those so im set on that front i suppose.

Though there are a lot of 6 button games id like to play like CPS2 games. Maybe I should look into a new cab rather then converting this 4 button to a 6 button?

Not at all. Just add 3 new buttons (buttons 456) below 1,2,and 3 on your control panel - then you will have a Capcom layout as well. Both Neo Geo and Capcom can co-exist in the same control panel because in Neo cabs button #4 is wired through the harness. In a Capcom CPS2/CPS3 layout buttons 4,5,and 6 for both players are wired separately through a kick harness. Here is the wiring info. So there are 2 button #4s - one that works when a Neo mobo is plugged in and the other that works when the kick harness is attached to a CPS2 a-board. You may have heard of this before referred to as a 7 button control panel layout.

Function: Kick harness Pin #
1P - GND 34
1P - Button 4 19
1P - Button 5 17
1P - Button 6 15

2P - GND 33
2P - Button 4 21
2P - Button 5 23
2P - Button 6 9

Here is what it looks like - this pic only has 2 buttons - with all other button holes capped.

Forget hacking the cab, your idea is defenately the way to go.

Perhaps I misunderstood your comment. If you meant buy a second cab with 6 buttons/Jamma/mono and still keep your Neo Candy, then I definitely agree with Electricgrave. Personally I would not let a few buttons or wiring in a switch make me sell a Neo Candy if it was the only cab I had.

In the mean time ill get that Neo to Jamma adapter though. Will I need to install that switch still for mono and stereo?
