In case some of you haven't checked or didn't notice, there's a demo up for Final Fantasy Dissidia on the PSN store now. Haven't played it yet myself, but I'm eager to check it out.

So, no one is playing this then..? I tried it yesterday, and I gotta say, this game looks pretty terrible to me. Just a button masher with FF characters, pretty lame... Does it get better as you go or something? Can you level your guys at least? If it's pretty much more of the demo but with more characters, I can't imagine wanting to pay full price for this.

It's not even remotely a button masher.

Yes, you level up your charas.

The game is amazingly polished. It's a must PSP title AFAIC.

I agree, Dissidia is an amazing game. The single player campaigns have a lot to do and multiplayer is great. You play against your friends and level up dudes at the same time. So rad.

I must be missing something then, because I thought the demo was boring as fuck. I tried playing as Cloud and Sephiroth, and both were just really really dull. Run around, hit the guy to increase your brave score, do a combo, lather, rinse, repeat, blah. Seems pretty crap to me (and I used to be a total FF fanboy).

When you level up you get new abilities.

Still, you just described every fighting game ever made, so if you think that is boring as fuck, maybe you should be doing something else with your time.

Most fighting games have more than one button to attack, last time I checked.

Anyways. Regardless of what the final product's like, all I'm saying is this seemed like a bit of a lousy demo. Not because it lacked content or anything, but because it doesn't seem to give me a very good idea of what the game itself is like. So, with that in mind, I'll reserve judgment for when (or rather, if) I pick it up.

One more question though: I did really like Crisis Core. Does that make it more likely I'll like this? They struck me as vaguely similar.

Dissidia has 2 buttons to attack though. When you unlock new attacks you perform them using nub direction and button combinations. All charas are very nerfed at base level.

I didn't get Crisis Core.

Well then, it's official: I've been asking the wrong questions in this thread. If that's the case, that sounds pretty cool actually. I did assume there was a bit more to it later, but but if I'm hearing you right, there's a lot more to it.

Now, that said, I bet this game is gonna be $40, so I might pass on it, I don't know. We'll see if I'm in the market for a new handheld game later this month.

There's a LOT in this game, and it is all very polished. I'm not a FF whore at all, and dont know most of the charas, but love this game.

As I think I said before, if you have a PSP it is a must.

Hmm... Well if nothing else, you've changed my mind on this title. If I had nothing to go on but the demo I probably wouldn't have given it a second look. So thanks for that.

So just a quick update for ya, hanafuda... I decided to buy this game today, and after even just a short time with it, I really like it a lot.

I do think that demo was kind of crappy, though. But still, you convinced me to pick this one up and I'm happy about it. Thought maybe you'd get a kick out of hearing that. ;)
