I had a friend give me a cocktail style arcade
The game is defense command. The problem is
I don't know anything about it, I've never heard
Of this game, and would like to see if any body
Knows anything about it so I may be able to
figure out if it would be possible to switch the
Defense command game out for a different one
(like pacman)or something.. If anyone could help
Me out I would really appreciate it.

I've never heard of it either. Google gave me some hits on what looks like a computer game of the space invaders variety, not something I'd expect to find in an arcade cab.

I'd suggest you open the side and take some pictures of the innards, someone here should be able to recognize the hardware. Or at least be able to tell if it's something easily compatable with a more well known game.

How would I go about rewiring it,
Is it extremely hard to do ?
If it's not jamma then what would
It be?

it would be proprietary to the one game.

Rewiring to Jamma is not hard if you are comfortable with some wiring work, patient, and able to work step by step logically. Just buy a Jamma harness, get a schematic showing what wires go where and you are off.

Buttons and joysticks are VERY easy. You will need to be patient and careful with the monitor and the power supply, so I suggest many google searches and lots of reading first so you can make a plan of attack before you do it.

actually in the second picture there is a little board on the inside on the cabinet, with a ton of wires leading to the board on the door (on the right). That little board looks like it has a JAMMA connector plugging into it that leads off tot he rest of the components in there. It looks like that little board and the wires leading tot he game board mounted on the door is actually some sort of propitiatory ->Jamma adapter.

If thats the case you could unplug that blue plug on the left of the image and plug it into a different Jamma board while leaving the original board intact mounted to the door.

Don't take this as a certain solution though since I'm new to this stuff too, and I wouldn't want anyone poking around in there based on what I said, but that's what it looks like to me. Someone else in here should be able to verify this, or tel you how to find out for sure.

Word of warning ! ! ! (if you didn't already know) CRT monitors like the one in that cab have capacitors that store massive amounts of power, enough to blow you across the room or stop your heart. I would advise not going anywhere near the back end of that monitor.

EDIT: looks like the big capacitors for the monitor are incorporated into the Powersupply in this case.

Defender is a great game (shame its a boot you have, but it is still worth having) I would be getting the Defense Command going first before thinking of converting to generic jamma.

Defense command works great..
But I got my 4slot neo geo for myself.
Wife wants this one to be able to play
Pacman,ms pacman,centipede ect.
Does anybody make adapter that will
Work for my prob. Or is it a must rewire??

Usually adaptors are used to change non-JAMMA boards into JAMMA compatible games, not the other way around. For your cabinet, a re-wire for JAMMA will be needed but as others said, it's not too hard to do plus once it's done, you can use many games and boards once it's rewired for JAMMA.

You now have another problem:p

The wife wants to play all vertical games,
so you will need to see if the monitor
can be rotated.

Take a top down picture of the monitor... Top removed...

See if you can rotate it.

Also, I'd recomend the 60-1 pcb
