There's always a lot of debate on the relative merits of all the great 1-on-1 (or 3-on-3) fighting games for the Neo, but it's been a while since I have seen a similar discussion on the side-scrolling "beat'em ups". What would you consider the best games of this ilk on the Neo? I foresee Sengoku 2 getting a lot of support. Is it the best? What else do you consider worth owning?

I'm a sucker for Mutation Nation, total early 90's cheese at it's best.

I honestly like all of the Neo Beat'em up except for Legend of sucks Joe. I vote for Sengoku 3 if I have to choose only one.

mutation nation is cool, haven't given the rest an honest try. is burning fight that bad or do people just rag on it because it looks alot like final fight?

I love Sengoku 3. The combo system is so fun that I'd go so far as to say that it's probably one of my favorite beat 'em ups, period.

Mutation Nation is also a lot of fun. I just love how cheesy and ridiculous the whole game is. Fighting a giant, bearded mammoth-man in the museum? You betcha! It's just a very fun and ridiculous game.

I thought senguko 3 was generally considered the best side-scrolling beat-em-up.
Sengoku 2 comes second, and the rest can't touch Sengoku 2 and 3.

My favorite will have to be Sengoku 3 since it's so fun & because of it's combo system. I'm hoping it'll be released on the Wii Virtual Console someday.

Sengoku 2 all the way, 3 is soooo fucking boring.

Ninja Combat for the old school feel, love those "whooshing" old school ninja sounds when you leap around!

Sengoku Legends 2001 FTW :D

Mutation Nation can be fun now and then, but it gets a bit repetitive.

Burning Fight is just naff. Compared to Final Fight, it's just dire, but overall it's just dull and... um, naff.

I recently got a Sengoku 2 homecart, and I'm really enjoying it. The atmosphere and weirdness make for a really unique and interesting game. Plus it plays well too. Sengoku 3 is fun in the short term, but Sengoku 2 has a lot more long term appeal I'd say. I tried to like Sengoku 1, but it's just too poorly designed. I just die, die, and die.

Sengoku series is great but all of the beat em ups are great. Sengoku 2 is probably my favorite I still own a copy (though I need to sell it since I have no hardware its aes)

I know most of the love is going to go towards Sengoku 3, but I've always enjoyed Robo Army.

I dig Sengoku 3 a lot, especially if you've got a buddy to play with. I think the biggest problem with many of the other Beat Em Ups is that many were released in the infancy of the NEO and it shows. If they decided to release more Beat Em Ups post '96, I think we would have a lot more gems to choose from.

I'm also a big fan of Ninja Combat and you can find it dirt cheap.

ninja combat is one of those games that took 10 years for you to really appreciate.

Sengoku 2 is my favorite by miles. Sengoku 3 was fun, but it shouldn't even be a Sengoku game imho.

I remember liking Mutation Nation, but I've only played a couple quarters of it oh so many years ago. I'd like to give it another go one of these days.

From what have played, it's currently Mutation Nation. As said, it's deliciously cheesy but very fun.

I have Sengoku 3 coming in and I have some good expectations. Better be better than Sengoku, but given that game is nothing but hit enemy, die, hit enemy, die, hit enemy, die etc... it has to be.
