Does anyone know where to get reviews on the net for Samurai Shodown Anthology? So it's already out in the states? Do some people here own it- how good is it- how do the different versions (PS2, PSP, Wii) compare to the Neo originals?

Its been out for months here... the only thing worth mentioning is the difference between SamSho-6 on the psp and the ps2.

The PS2 version is fine, as are all the installments...they are basically Roms with some extra features added in.

The PSP version of SamSho-6 is that is doesn't run full screen, it only fills up about 80 percent or so of the screen. Its missing some animation frames most likely... but all in all its playable. Considering the price its worth getting both versions...

I don't have a Wii so I cant comment on that

I've the import for PSP, borrowed from a friend, nothing to write home about in my honest opinion. Though I've always found the PSP to be a bit uncomfortable for fighters.

The PS2 version is okay. No 480p support, though, and 1-5 have a slight filter to them, which cannot be disabled. SS6 is pretty much exactly what it's always been, except in English, and with the option to turn on/off the redone voices (on by default). I haven't noticed any particular problems with any of the games. It's a fine purchase for $15.

I don't know of any sites that reviewed it, but I have it on PS2 and I'd say its a good purchase. SS1-5 (no SSVS) are basically just straight up roms while 6 is the same as the JP PS2 port I think. For $15 Id say its a good deal

Being the fool-hardy purchaser I am, I pre-ordered the PSP version just to save me the hassle of ordering and waiting for UPS delivery.

There are noticeable studders in gameplay.
Samurai Shodown (1) controls better than it's SNK Classics Vol.1 counterpart.

I don't remember having messed with 2 on the collection.
For 3 and Up, I've yet to have an opponent land a Rage move on me.
Here's why:
The game stops, you hear the disk whirr, there's a 1_1/2 second pause, and the opponent rushes you for the move.
Ample time to hit back to block. However, it's massively flow breaking.

I hear the PS2 version is somewhat better.
But, even with older SNK compilations showing up in bins in three counties for ten dollars and under, SS Collection seems a scarcer find.
That's not to say it is harder to find. It's just that I'm more likely to get it used from a bin than search the globe in a hot-air balloon to find a pristine copy unclaimed by flag staking in international property grabs.

I may have read something about the Wii version.
But, since I've classified every system so far as things I neither want nor need, I cannot recall as to what I may have read.

Really, the only memory that sticks out on the compilation was that they were getting closer to characters I found relate-able.
Seeing the construction of the white house with John Philip Sousa's Stars and Stripes Forever playing brought me into an atmosphere that could have lured me into becoming a fan of the series; Short of having a Spanish Conquistador showing up.

Wii version is good. Picked it up a few months ago. I don't see any major problems. Probably the same as the PS2 ports.

I think the bottom line is that it's a good value on the PS2 and Wii if you don't have a more faithful way to play the games, or if you simply want to dabble with them.

I've reviewed the PSP version months ago.

PS2 version is exactly what everyone else has said. I don't like the soft filter on SS1-5. In the instructions booklet it says there is an option to turn the filter off, but they left it out of the game for whatever reason. Also, I don't like the fact that you can't turn the timer off. Minor gripes, but for a series so important as SS they should've taken extra care.

Why is SNK so slack about their Neo Geo compilations? You would have thought there is a market for the games, especially in Japan, where the AES was more popular than it ever was in the US. Can't they just make a good Japanese version for PS2, then translate it to English regions? Either they're just slack, or they're milking the fans by selling multiple versions of games (eg metal slug 3,4,5, Anthology), or it's both.

I always felt that the PS2 releases of the individual games were better ports, like MS3, MS6, SSV, SSVI, and so on. However the price point of the compilations brings a nice touch, if I was a kid, or better yet, if this came out 10 years ago I'd be all over it like flies on shit. Kind of like when the Saturn had some decent Neo ports that later were repacked as collections.

If you're new to the Neo or have no other viable way of playing the games this is a great way to get introduced to a bunch of great games, even if you're a rom player having these collections is great 'cause you have practice modes and you got better command legends than those found in the internet.

For me, I just like the arrange music and in the case of SSVI I needed to understand the system better, so the US release was of great help to understand the game as a whole.

It's a solid compilation. I have the PS2 version. All I really cared about were 1 & 2 and they are emulated well. I haven't played the MVS versions in years but I notice no flaws in game play. There is one oddity - you don't seem to be able to pull off fatalities in 1 and 2 unless you are playing in VS mode... I have never been able to cut the CPU in half or finish with the arterial spray. The soft graphical filter is a bit annoying but you probably won't notice it after a few mins of play.

Weird. I have the Wii version & 1 lets you do both the arterial spray & the cutting CPU in half fatalities, yet 2 doesn't have any fatalities in it for some reason.

You can enable fatalities in the VC port of SS2 if you do the AES uncensor code.
