I just can't get enough of them. Could be the custor, the rolling, and all the dodging of the bullets that makes me addicted to them. :P

Anyway I own these four games:

Cabal (legit joystick version modded to make the roll button button three)
Blood Bros (sequel to Cabal and pretty much superior to Cabal)
NAM-1975 (oh yes, love the run/rolling idea)
Gamshara (from Mitchell, made in 2002 and it's currently the last of the Cabal style games).

So what makes a Cabal-style game:

* There's the custor on the screen for shooting.
* Character's must move left/right only.
* Third Person view.
* Most games have a rolling/evading button to dodge bullets, but not all of them have a button like that.

Other Cabal-style games (which I'll pick up their PCBs soon):

Rambo III
GI Joe
Dynamite Duke

Now the question is there anymore arcade Cabal-Style games out there? I believe there's a few more but I don't remember anything ATM.

Dynamite Duke (seibu Kaihatsu) and G.I. Joe (Konami) i guess would be closer to that style of game.

BTW, if you ever wanna sell that Cabal, drop me a line lol

I have such good memories of playing Cabal at the BBQ joint near my parents house growing up.... I own the PCB , the marquee, and the board for the track ball, but no trackball or cab I can commit to it right now. What makes it joystick version?

A chip change out or something?

The PCB looks the same as the trackball version it's like plug and play. The problem was that the roll button was actually the test/service buttons so a friend and I had to do a simple soldering job to get it redirected to the third button.

i have had it hooked up to a jamma cab, but the joysticks didn't do anything at all.... are you saying they should work except for the rolling? Or did I misread?

I believe on the regular PCBs the joysticks must be wired on a small PCB board on the main board.

I'll take pictures tomorrow since my Cabal board has that small PCB board, but of course it's useless since the joysticks works via JAMMA.

One guy at KLOV said that he believes the joystick version of Cabal is for the European market.

There's also the bootleg version of Cabal by "Red" which works with joysticks and the third button is the roll button. Downside is that the samples are a little weaker than the original but this is one of the rare instances where the bootleg is sometimes better than the legit version. :scratch:

My Cabal was a trackball version but still played ok but I had a super hard time with it fighting the submarine. I'd like to try it with a joystick.

idealy I would love to have a trackball setup for it, thats like half the fun of the game, to me anyhow. It was very unique when it came out, and the NES version while not horrible... never was as fun, mostly because of the control pad.

How about an honorable mention of Garuka/Devestators? That'd be a scrolling Cabal-style game. If you're not opposed to console games, Wild Guns on the SFC is good (but pricey).
