just got a cps2 a board and 2 b boards. when hooked up to either my supergun or plugged into the cab the horizontal display is slightly wavey with either b board attached. is something going out on the a board? :spock:

interesting note: while typing this i noticed that the power supply on the cab makes a hissing noise with this board as well.

none of the other boards i have do this.

could be a dirty sync signal. If you have a sync cleaner turn it on.

A cps2 board should work straight in on a cab... And most superguns....

Could you be getting dirty power?

What type of monitor?
What type of encoder/Tv?

The hissing PSU shows that you might have a problem with the board... Look the contacts over very very well.... Make sure there isn't anything out of the ordinary.

well, the monitor in the cab is a dual res nanao and the signal runs through a namco jamma to jvs adaptor.

the tv is a samsung LN52A750 lcd and the encoder is a cga to vga from ambery. the psu on the supergun is a suzohapp pc style, which doesn't hiss like the cab one.

each setup uses completely separate parts, which tells me it's the cps2.

i'm going to open up the a board and look around.

Crack open the A board and give it a good cleaning. Check the sync line for any corrosion. I had a COTA B board that came with an A board and it was corroded inside. I had to fix a bunch of traces. I don't even know how they got corroded.

Maybe this wouldn't apply to you due the different encoder, but here is some info on mine. I have 5 A + B boards from different regions. I am using a supergun I built myself, but the video is through and XRGB-3 on B1 mode through the VGA out.

I do get a slight distortion on the top, say, 10 lines on my Samsung LN46A950. This is fixed by moving the AFC level to 2 or 3 on the XRGB-3. My AES Neo Geo has the same distortion, but none of my MVS present ot (2 1F and 1 1C).

So my point is that is might not be a problem with your setup, but from the signal itself. My distortion without altering AFC is very light though, maybe posting pictiures would help compare.

CPS2 has a 60hz refresh and Neo has 59.18hz, the CPS2 should be giving you any problems with the sync rate.

the board was very dirty and had a colony of dust bunnies living in it. got it all cleaned up and i followed the trace all the way to a texas instruments chip. all the traces and solder points look perfect. reassembled and the same waveyness exists. not sure what else to look at.

looks like i may have to pick up another a board to get the picture better.
