TurboGrafx Video Mod Questions

I picked up a TurboGrafx 16 the other day and noticed it only had RF out. I read online that all TurboGrafx and PC-Engine models can be video modded and I was wondering if anyone has any experince with it.

Specific questions:
I had read online that you can tap the RGB and sync at either the chip or at the expansion port, the expansion port sounds easier, but would there be any disadavntage to doing so?

Which encodeder would be best for the job?

Any other issues I should consider?

Thanks

If you do it from the expansion port the signal will be weak and the RGB will look worse than it's supposed to (or it might not be strong enough to show anything). If you tap it from the chip things will work great. As for which encoder to use go for a Jrok 4.1 with sync cleaner. I've seen it work with a Jrok and a neobitz using a jrok sync cleaner.

Buy a Turbo Booster.
You know that would be the easy way of doing things, but I thought I would try the mod because I want to try a video mod on something my self and this is something I would mind loosing if I completly screwed it up(I had some one else do the mod on my AES), since buying a duo system is on my todo list.

Also dose anyone know where I can get the tool and/or bit needed to open the system?

Thanks for the info.

I hate to ruin good classic hardware. Do it the way it was meant or don't do it at all I say. If you video mod a system only do it if you absolutely must have RGB.

The turbo booster works well!

Easier and less hassle!

Normally I'd agree with you, but hardware is hardware and it is his to do with as he pleases. Also I'd say RGB is better for people with HDTVs especially LCDs because the game looks like crap otherwise. Also the cost of modding the system is less than buying a turbo booster by a lot if you already have a RGB monitor or an encoder. On top of that some people just like nicer picture quality.
