Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is officially awesome. It only took us what, two years to get a localized version of Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G? At least Capcom is advertising for this series now.

So yeah, it's the perfect handheld game.

Last time I was in Japan I saw tons of groups of people huddled around the McDonald's booths and coffee shops playing this shit over wifi. I wanted to join them so badly, but I am still stuck solo because no one locally is into it. Apparently it's too fucking hard for them.

I'm up to killing Monoblos/White Monoblos solo now, but I could go so much farther if I had people to group with.

I can't be the only Monster Hunter fan here can I?

I feel your pain dude. I only know of one person, my neighbor (which can get old) who plays MH, I looove the series, and I've sunk countless hours into it. It's really a game which is sooo much more fun with multiple people. I really wish I had 4 good players locally, that I could play with. I havn't gotten MHFU yet, and I'm not too sure that I will. The retrogame-itis, is in full swing right now, plus the problem of only one other person to play it locally with.

You could try X-Link Kai, its not the same as having a few good friends to play it with, but it still lets you play with some others, and you can chat on the computer in a chat bubble, however communication isnt the same either.

They have a new infrastructure tool that you can download from the Japanese PSN that lets you play ad-hoc PSP games linked through your PS3 over the internet. I never tried it. Maybe I will in the future.

It's not the same as meeting up for some ad-hoc action though.

i am a big fan of Monster Hunter actually. i just dont play the PSP games :(

however, MH3 for wii is the perfect remedy... i will be back on the scene then getting me some cool armors and weapons. i clocked in so many hours on the original MH it's pretty sad. i didnt have a job at the time.. :D

however, i can vouch that the PSP games are very fun in their own regard, if a bit easier than the home games. MH2 i've been playing on my PS2 and there really is a big difference when going it solo. much harder. i played Monster Hunter Freedom 2 with a borrowed PSP and game, got full Silver Rathalos armor, Smolder dragon sword and lots of other great stuff. but it's just not the same unless it's on a home system for me.

good luck finding some other hunters!

THIS GAME would make me buy a Wii again in a heartbeat.

I imported my MHF2 character to MHF Unite, and he already had quite a bit of gear on him. I've been making slow progress ever since. I need two more Monoblos horns to make the full set of armor, and then I need a Kirin item to make the Devil Slicer.

I had a little trouble with Monoblos at first, but with the right support items I can down him every time now.

I feel your pain buddy. I have two friends that play MH but they refuse to get Freedom Unite because they can't import their old data over. So I'm playing solo ;_;

I am so depressed and lonely to be the only Monster Hunter fan in the area. Maybe I should start a club. Then again, it would probably be comprised of teenagers and people in their early twenties, which would make me look kind of creepy at 33.

I did pass another milestone solo though, I took down Tigrex.

And Kirin, so I just need 2 more Thunderbug Juice and I will have my Devil Slicer.

I'm surprised at how far I've gotten by myself, it would have been 10x easier with just a second dedicated Hunter. I'd be HR 4 or 5 now instead of HR 2. I'm on the verge of HR 3, I just need to complete one last Guild quest that's been kicking my ass thus far.

EDIT: Monster Hunter 3 is coming to Wii in North America in early 2010. Guess I'm buying a Wii again. :emb:

At least Capcom is marketing it this time around.

For the original Monster Hunter (PS2), there was literally nothing done in terms of making gamers aware of the game. People read the reviews, which mainly consisted of average scores at best, with many reviewers complaining about the difficulty.

I think Monster Hunter's biggest hurdle to overcome is that it's too hard for most American gamers. It's really meant to be tackled in groups though, so if people would play it the way it was designed, it would be a much more enjoyable experience.

In Japan, the game is immensely popular because of it's handheld nature and the local ad-hoc multiplayer. Friends meet up at the local coffee shop or McDonald's and play. It's a communal experience. I'm sure there are some MH groups in the bigger US cities out there, but if you're like me and you're stuck living in a smaller city/suburb, it's pretty much a solo game.

You do have Ad-Hoc party? You can play Monster Hunter online with it. I downloaded it last night and few guys helped me rank up. It has text and voice chat support. Excellent for any Monster Hunter players that don't have anyone to play with locally. Of course you need a PS3 and a JPN account to get it.

I'm HR5. Getting Ad-Hoc party really upped my game. Now I don't have to play on my own again. There are a couple of players on there that are willing to help players rank up and get the martials they need. Very friendly community. You won't regret it.
