I've been looking around the forums here and I can't seem to find any info on how to tell a bootleg from a legitimate cart.

I really should go through all my carts and make sure I dont have any. I never did this when buying games as most were from here or reputable shops.

How hard have you looked? Check out the bootleg forum for starters. The same topics are covered there over and over and over and over. Also check this out: http://www.jamma-nation-x.com/jammax/tutorials.html

unscrew the 4 screws and carefully open the cartridge from the connectors side.

try not to bend the label too much.

I just got a boot KoF 98 from teh eBayz...weird since it had a legit label. :scratch:

Ah well, at least it was cheap and the guy gave me a refund.

My rule of thumb: on every cart that you can open without fucking anything up, DO IT!
