It is real, because I have seen a PIP sqaure burn in. However, I am curious, because I will play my NEO GEO games on a big screen. Since the NG is a 16 Bit and do not use changing graphics, I am worried of burn ins. Anybody know?

Burn-in usually occurs when the image is not moving or paused. As far as I know, with the newer tvs, it takes longer. Perhaps a day or two of constant on use.

Not to sure

My good buddy, we'll call him Dan, has parents who bought a big screen TV just so they could watch all the 'excitement' of the OJ trial (I don't remember what he did...something about putting void stickers on dead bodies?).

When the trial was all said and done, we decided to watch a movie on it; Terminator 2. When the screen would flash white, or any other bright colour, all you could see at the bottom, burned in, was "Trial of OJ Simpson" a strait line and "CNN" in the corner.

Boy did we laugh.

Anyways, to answer your question of how long it takes phosphor burn to take affect, I'd say it takes the same amount as the OJ Simpson trial. Or possible less, I'll never know.

i have a big screen projection tv and i used to play the original marvel vs capcom for dreamcast constantly on it and it never burned in. but it costs somthing like 700 buck (CAN) to repair it so id still recomend not over doing it

i always turn off the tv when i pause and dont leave it running when not playing

so in my opinion i say go for it play ur geo on the bigscreen just do it in moderation and be carefull

YIKES!! U should NEVER use video games on a projection TV!!! This is the kind of TV where static images are harmful I believe, basically its the kind of images machines give out. Nintendo and Sega gave out warnings with their machines, probably others too!

My parents had a rear-projection TV and I played plenty (and I mean plenty) of Genesis, SNES, and Neo Geo on it without any burn in. I would make sure to turn it off if I ever had to leave it paused.

However, I never plugged in my Nintendo to it because I feard burn in.

I once hooked up my NES to my aunt's big screen reprojection TV and played Ninja Gaiden for a few days (this was long long ago). No problems whatsoever.

Big screeen TVS can get burn in from ANYTHING thats stationary on the screen for long ammounts of time.

The reason they warn about video games, is because things like life bars, ect. that stay in the same place are more common in games. RPGs especially.

So leaving CNBC on for days, could cause it, since they have the same icons and stock bars on the screen.

Just something you have to be careful about, the main draw about projection screens are movies anyways, which would not cause burn in at all, unless you paused a DVD for like a whole day.

My arcade machine has burnin from the previous owner,it says viewpoint across the screen whenever the screen goes white you can see this clearly,As for my tv whenever i play my supergun and want to pause the game for a little while now,i just pull out the connecting cable to the tv so it does make contact and allow burnin because there is no way i want burnin on that as well.

Yup!
As has already been said, dont leave on pause etc, also if you have the TV in your living room, try and position it out of direct sunlight, and dont permenantly have the contrast turned right up!
If you are carefull, and use some common sense when playing, it shouldn't be a problem!
Remember, keep the screen shaded and the contrast & brightness at the minimum level that you find acceptable. Apart from that, just try to vary the games you play, dont pause for more than a few mins (unless you switch the TV off) and dont leave the game demo'ing for hours if your not playing it!

I have been playing games on my Sony 53 inch rear projector for about two years now and have had no problems at all. It also helps if you have your tv set properly. Use Avia or Video essensials. Many people like bright pics but the higher you have your brightness and contrast, the quicker you get burn in.
