Hey folks. I'll be getting a PS2 again for the first time in a while. The main thing I want to use it on is my NEC XM29+ monitor. Can anyone help me get a cable that will run the RGB to it? I'm not 100% but I think it needs to be custom made.
Any which way let me know if you've got one or can build one and what you're asking and we'll work something out.

Also wouldn't mind a cheap S-Video cable if anyone has an extra lying around.

Thanks,

-Alec

Hey brother man-

I'm sure there are better (maybe even cheaper, prettier?) solutions out there- but with mine I use an Ultimarc VGA dealio. There's the vga part, then a vga cable (and mini-rca stereo) adapter that I run from that vga part to the tv. Change the settings in the PS2 and bam. Looks great- all PS1 things are super sexy- and even 95% of the ps2 stuffs :)

I built all of my RGB cables by buying RGB SCART cables and replacing the SCART end with the connector that I needed.

I'd be willing to build one for the right price. PM me if interested.

If you want to connect several consoles/supergun, it's easier to use an RGB SCART switchbox and standard SCART cables for each console. Then, just hack one SCART cable to output from the switchbox to the 15-pin connector on the monitor.

Also, the SCART -> 15-pin cables on ebay uk from first2save are NOT wired for RGB. They're only composite SCART. When I complained they were 'nice' enough to send me an identical replacement for free. There aren't even enough wires in the cable to re-wire it for RGB. So, I got a couple old VGA cables from the local used PC chop shop and hacked the SCART connectors onto one end. Works great.

No offence taken:vik: Knowing his setup he probably has the 360 on the back (vga)- don't remember him having any other consoles (could be wrong). I run the same setup for shooties/fighters that he seems to dig- so one VGA cable and he can mess with both (possibly save some dough :)

From a picture/quality standpoint- I'd love for someone to tell me that a PS2 run through the 15 pin/rgb is any different than the rgb bnc connections : P

That being said- if I had the cash I'd pay someone to do the whole "switch cable" thing- and have cables made for all the rgb capable systems- but last I checked that'd run $$ or quite a bit of time.

I bet it will sync on whatever input you use. Also a DB15 (VGA) to BNCx5 adapter is about $8 shipped from monoprice.

But remember that the PS2 does not output C-sync or seperate H and V. You have to get it from c-video with a circuit. Ultimarc's adapter does this, and makes it a DB15, but it leaves off the needed capacitors that PS2 scart cables must provide (why!!!?). Perhaps the Blaze VGA cable has everything you need.

And speaking of Blaze, there are 480p PS2 games, and patches now that can make some games run in 480p with HD loader (or you could just use the Blaze disc) You will want this for Gradius V as it's 480i.

I suspect running through the BNC inputs might give slightly better picture quality than the 15-pin VGA input. But 15-pin VGA cables are cheaper and easier to find. I picked out two high quality VGA cables and a PSU for $15 at my local PC chop shop.

I'm going through the "switch cable" thing right now, trying to get everything running via RGB into my XM29. Electricquarter has some <$10 3rd party RGB SCART cables for a few systems, some on their website and some on ebay. I've been debating whether I should go with the cheap 3rd party cables or track down some official SCART cables from the UK. Nintendo systems look like they'll be the worst to transition. The U.S. console versions won't output RGB without modding the console slightly.
