I purchased a Standard-Resolution Monitor from Well-Gardner Model 19K7203. I placed this monitor into my 1 slot cabinet. It has direct AC power so I did to hook it up to the existing isolation transformer. I just left that thing in the cabinet. I connected my 1-Slot to the monitor using the same edge connector that I used on the old monitor. The following 5 pins are connected to the monitor:

1 = Red
2 = Green
3 = Blue
4 =
5 =
6 =
7 =
8 = Ground
9 =
10 = Horizontal Sync

My dilemma now is that I cannot keep the monitor from continuously rolling horizontally. There is an adjustment on the circuit board called W-Hold that lets me get it close to stabilizing and then it just takes off scrolling either left or right. The H-POS control does not help.

Should I be connecting something to these pins?

4 = Gnd
5 = + Vertical Sync
6 = + Horizontal Sync
7 = Key
9 = - Vertical Sync

If so, what? I’ve got nothing else from the Jamma connector to connect to the monitor.

Tech support thinks that my 1-Slot could be bad. Could it be that when my old monitor died it took the 1-Slot with it? Unfortunately, I do not have a spare 1-slot or any other PCB it which to try another test.

Any help on the subject would be appreciated.

I noticed that on my wg monitor the vsync connector was incorrectly connected. When I placed it in a different slot/pin the monitor worked great.

The rgb should be no problem.

I believe you need to connect the 6th pin with the 10th pin, however I would await Arakon's response first as he has had more monitor experiece than me.

I'm going to check my cab when I'm home...

Thanks, anything that you can find out will be much appreciated. I sure hope Arakon reads this too. I need all the help I can get!

My arcade operator friend's opinion:

<Talen-_> He probably wants to wire up 4 and 6.
<Talen-_> Post that.
<Talen-_> That's something I have had to do with wg monitors before.

Just to clarify on what rev posted before, I'm not sure of the schematic for the 19k7203, but I have diagrams for the 27k7401 infront of me, and that's the monitor I have worked with most. You should probably stick with the first set of six pins in a row, I would suggest making a connector from the motherboard connector from an at power supply if you have one around.

Oh, just a big hello to the people I know here , and my aplogies for not keeping in touch, my life is a hectic mess. Starting your own arcade is by no means a small task.

Hi, I scanned the schematic for the 19K7203 if you'd like to take a look at it. I tried moving pin 8 to 4 and 10 to 6 but the results are the same. I have not tried joining any pins yet.

Unfortunately, I do not have any spare parts.

If you are able to swap pins with your connector there isn't much point in fooling with another connector. The w-hold is essentially the horizontal hold control for the monitor. There is no point in joining lines, that shouldn't do anything with that monitor at all. I doubt it is your wiring, because if it was colors or at the very least the vsync would be off too, not just the hysnc. Keep playing with the w-hold pot, those things can be somewhat twitchy.

I've fooled with that w-hold pot for a long time. I can get the horizontal to stop from scrolling for a few moments and then off it goes again. Ahhhhh!!!!

Hey Tiptonium, if it helps I know of a good source for very reasonable monitor parts. The source is Bob Roberts, website is:
http://www.therealbobroberts.com

Once you get to the site, click on "Quick Find Directory" for a better organized and grouped list of what he offers.

Anyway, he sells cap kits (only about $5-$6 each) and full monitor repair kits ($32-$42) for Wells Gardner monitors. I'm not sure if your WG was new or used, but if used may just need some maintenance. I've bought many parts from Bob, he's a great seller who offers these items mainly as a service to the arcade collecting/operating community. And his prices are really excellent.

I have a problem with a Hantarex MTC 9110 25" monitor in a vertical cab. Some shooter pcbs that I put in have horizontal roll, but I can't find ANY horizontal or vertical sync controls at all in the cabinet!! I can find brightness, vertical shift (up and down), focus and screen, but no vertical or horizontal sync. Really weird. I'm going to do some more research on this, all those controls should be standard in the Hantarex chassis.

Good luck with your WG, and do consider getting cap kits and/or full monitor repair kits . . . they're worth it!!

This is my second brand new monitor from WG. Both were the same model number. Both have the same problem synch'ing. There's got to be a simple solution. Anyway, thanks for the link.

Success! I've got the monitor sync'ed now. Ground on pin 4 and sync on pin 6 did the trick. I tried that last night but it did not work. The difference this time is I moved a jumper from normal to test this time. A WG tech recommended that I try that. Then I moved the the connectors to those pins an low and behold the sync stabilized! I tried going back to 10 but it when haywire again so I put it back to 6 and now all is right in the House of Tiptonium. I guess I'll go play some Pulstar now. What a great picture too!

Thanks to everyone that responded. You rule!
