I'm working on a conversion cab and want to paint the sides red.
Anyone know the exact color or have any advice on what type of paint to use?

So far my plan is to just take the marquee to the hardware store and try to match the color.

Also, Primers? Polyurethane?

Not mine, but an example:

there is a thread, I believe it might be in the general section, or maybe even tech support. someone posted the paint code for the "Big Red" Red there. I've been meaning to copy it down but it's definitely there.

I would use an acrylic speed primer or if it's available in your area, use Zinzers B-I-N shellac primer. Either one will stick like a bugger.

If you can spray your top coat that would be beneficial. Red is one of the worst covering colors and usually requires multiple coats to cover. It would be a shame if you developed lap marks as you built it up.

If you are top coating with acrylic make sure it's a good quality 100% acrylic paint and also realize that it will probably be 30 days for the paint to fully cure (reach it's maximum hardness).

Somewhere on these forums you can find a formula for the red. If you end up having it matched make sure the guy knows what he's doing as a bright red can be a tricky color to match.

Thanks for the feedback.
What do you guys think about a final Polyurethane coat?
And would it be wise to put it over the white decals to prevent scrapes?
