Bad bios installation?

Ahh man, I installed a 3.0 Unibios today. I decided to do the piggyback method, because I was afraid of damaging the crowded tiny brittle traces on the AES mobo. Got the chip installed, plugged her in and got the White Screen you should get with no cart plugged in.

Put in a game, booted her up, and the Unibios screen is just a blank green window. I press A and the console boots up fine, but even in-game the Unibios menu is blank.

I double checked my soldering and it looks fine. Does this sound like my bios chip is corrupt? Usually a bad debug chip install gives you a garbled screen and a dead console.

I have a spare Neo-Geo Debug bios, maybe I'll just install that. Sucks, I really wanted to have this cool new 3.0 Unibios. :crying:

Can you give some screenshots of the problem. It sounds like from what you said that the 8x8 layer of the neogeo is not working. It could be a currupt bios also or a dodgy connection.

I already removed the bios. The console would boot up, and give me the green uni bios window with absolutely no text. pressing A would boot the console up in English as normal for the Uni-bios.

Darn it, guess I messed something up. With the original stock bios I now only get a blinking white screen instead of the Neo geo bootup, and then the games run like normal.

At least the console still works, sucks I messed it up and ruined my $38.70 bios at the same time.

sounds like something strange is going on here.

The unibios may still be fine, I think you need to get the console working right with the normal bios again and then try the unibios again after. Probably there are a couple of pins touching or something.

I'm pretty sure you had problems because with the piggyback you need to slightly install it to the right. The cart flap sometimes pushes on the piggybacked bios chip. If in a socket will pop it out sometimes.

Can you post pics of your piggyback?
