I have a Chinese Candy Clone that I just got off of ebay. I am wanting to upgrade the monitor to a VGA model.

I bought a Sanwa 29PF31 off of ebay . Both are 29" flat CRTs. I just got the cabinet today...and it doesn't look like the mounting brackets on the monitors are alike at all.

Will I have to come up with some type of machined custom solution or is it possible to exchange the outer mounting hardware on the monitors to get the new Sanwa to mount? Has anyone else attempted to move the tube and "guts" of one monitor to another mounting bracket?

Thanks

try to just unbolt the top and bottom mounting brackets from the chinese cab's monitor and mount them onto the sanwa monitor. you may need to modify the chinese cabs mounts a little to allow for the sanwa monitors chasis rails to mate properly, but you should be able to do that with a drill and a dremmel.

So you are saying that I should keep the top and bottom mounting brackets that are on the old monitor...and just drill holes in them (if they don't match up) to mount the new monitors "support bars" (the 2 that wrap around and bend from top to bottom bracket)?

That should be easier than changing the entire mount. Where would I take something like that to get done? The holes that are in it now are actually threaded...and I'm not very comfortable with my metal drilling abilities (especially with only a hand held drill).

yes

do you have any friends who are more handy? if you are going from threaded holes to non threaded holes, buy some matching nuts for the bolts, if you are going from non threaded holes to threaded holes (and they don't fit the threads) drill the holes out just a tiny bit to get rid of the threads and use nuts for the bolts.

Thanks. I was thinking of keeping them threaded, but I guess throwing a nut on them is just as good.

As for being handy...as I said I only have a hand drill. I can probably find someone who at least has a drill press. The idea of it being metal scares me a little bit too. I'm used to working with wood and the occasional plexiglass.
