I'm thinking of getting rid of all my vids but two and just go gung-ho on pins, now. I just can't get enough of playing pinball, but my vids I'm just getting sick of. Hell, video games in general. It has to take a pretty neat ass game for me to get excited now a days, like Punch Out on Wii.... otherwise, I just don't seem to care.

I already sold a few of my vids, but think I may just clear the rest out and go pin crazy. Lord knows they're a hell of a lot more expensive, for sure.

I say keep at least 1 cab so you at least have the ability to fire up a game to have some fun. Also, you can't get rid of that Samurai Shodown II custom job you built, can you? That thing is too wicked to get rid of!

edit: oh I guess I should read more carefully. lol you already said you're keeping two.

I'm keeping Hydro Thunder and probably Virtua Fighter Evo. I already posted Sam Sho 2 for sale, as it's having monitor issues that I just don't want to deal with. I can fix just about anything in pins now for a hell of a lot cheaper.

I'm in the same boat, so I understand you 100%. I've sold 8 vids over the past two years to fund my pinball habit. I'm down to a HOTD 2 cab, a Naomi Net City (both for sale). The only vid I'm keeping is my Neo 29 candy.

How much is that Net City for sale for? PM sent.

EDIT: Thought I should contribute and not just be a candy whore.
I remember back in the day lovin' pinball machines. When I was around five or six, I had a friend who's dad was an arcade tech or operator, I can't remember, but anyway, he used to bring machines to his house and work on them. Me and my friend would get a chance to play them, which was fun. They kept a Back to the Future pinball machine, which we played a lot. I never was really good at it, though. Recently, I've had a chance to play one and was pretty bad at it. How do you get something like that in your house, btw? Can you take the legs off and lie it on it's back/side?

the legs come off pins with no problem usually. and then the back either comes off or folds down.

I own a few cabs and now two pinballs, King Rex and Bounty Hunter. If you have one, you pretty much have to have the other. You know someone would say you should have the other if you only had one.

The legs just bolt to the side of the box, so they're not hard to remove. The back usually just comes off or folds like Not Sonic said, but apparently some make it a little more difficult, if it was made to fold, then the back box isn't supposed to be removed, so you may have to snip wires to get it off. I had to cut the AC lines to fit it in a Tucson.

Pins are great though, if you hate them, you're just bad at pinball.

They do take up a lot space, it's about the width of a cabinet, and a fence to keep you away from it. I don't know how someone could have like 6 in a row, not even enough space to bump it around when you need to. But I still enjoy pinball enough to not care, but I'm also stopping at 2. One EM machine and one solid state. the EM from 69 and the other from 85. I love pinball but I don't like later ones, they became too busy and ugly.

yeah, i have an em from 63. ive played it my whole life and considering how little there is to do on it, its gotten boring. but id never get rid of it.

id like to get something from the late 80s or early 90s. obviously everyone likes medieval madness. i remember liking popeye as a kid, in some pizza parlor.

Maybe its just me, but pinball is just getting worse IMO. Played Pirates of the Carribean (Stern Pinball) on Saturday, and that thing was so fucking boring. What happend to the good machines like Addams Family, Theater of Magic or T2?

I have a few pins now, and have contemplated on selling off some vids to buy another pin. I know I would never get rid of all my vids, but it is tempting sometimes. Good luck with getting one or another, I bought one and thought I would be fine, but now I seem to want more pins then I do vids.

Pinballs are awesome. I just wished they did not cost so much!

I bought my first pin a few months ago, which was a Family Guy machine and I'm having a blast.

All this talk about pins and now I am finding that I am doing more research on them. I think I may be getting the pinball bug as well.

Again - I just love that Family Guy pin!!!

Pinballs aren't that expensive, about as much as a cab, just depends on how new it is. I paid $450 for King Rex, not including gas to get it in Buffalo. Also $550 for Bounty Hunter with all the fixes on the original hardware for the faults it's known for. I'd like to get the Creature From The Black Lagoon pinball, but that thing is way too expensive for novelty.

Yeah depending on what you are looking for a pinball machine can be very affordable. A lot of the DMD games can be had below $1500 in decent shape. There are a few machines that command some serious coin, but for the most part you can get machines in good shape for affordable prices, just stay away from retailers and buy from other collectors, some of those guys are very good at shopping pins.

What would be a good resource for getting more knowledgeable in the art of pinball machines?

A good place to start is here, Rec.Games.Pinball, there is a ton of knowledge on this group and a lot of collectors. People sell machines all the time, I bought one of my machines off of someone on there. Actually some former game programmers and designers post on there from time to time as well.

A NIB Stern machine will run about $4000+, so pinball can be an expensive hobby.
