role playing games for people with short attention spans?
sounds like a game I'd like to monkey around with.

So... Not much interest in this game I take it? Looked pretty rad to me.

Well no. It's a traditional JRPG, except battles last literally like 2 seconds, and you can complete quests in 30 seconds. It's basically an RPG on speed, with 8-bit style graphics.

Sounds like a winner to me!

There's a demo up for this now. I tried it, and it was a bit different than I expected, but really fun. I think I'll buy it when it comes out. Gotta love a game that doesn't take itself too seriously. ;)

I may grab this when it comes out. I enjoyed the demo but didn't do very well on either stage. I would like to know a little bit more about how the game will work.

I managed to get Wonderful Hero in the first stage, but only middling ranks in the second. I'm looking forward to figuring out how to do the levels efficiently... Man. What a blast. Fight battles, level up, buy equipment, finish quests and talk to the villagers, then go kill the boss, all in 30 seconds. Brilliant. :)

Well, I had a blast playing this but I suck at it and that is why I am hoping to find out more about it. I was not able to beat either level.

Is there some strategy involved with beating a level? I am also wondering if anything will carry over from each thirty second game. With each game being so short, I am wondering about the length of the entire package.

Get out of town! You can't beat either one? Here's how you clear the first level:

Fight a couple monsters until you get 180 gold. That should take like 5 seconds. Then go to town, heal, and buy the steel pike. Go back outside and fight a monster (two max) in the woods. This should take another 5, maybe 10 seconds. Go back to town, heal, then head to the big bad and take 'im out. It's pretty easy when you get the hang of the ridiculous pace of this game.

The second level is a bit harder, but all you really have to do is head to the first town (you can ignore the castle for now), fight two battles 'til you have 200 gold, buy a sword, then go back to the castle and recruit the two guards (they won't join you unless you have a sword). When you've got them, you're on easy street. Go back close to the town, then fight battles until you're almost out of time. Then go to town, heal, buy a healing herb and pay the goddess to reset the clock. If you haven't already, talk to the old man. He'll tell you you he needs some medicine (don't worry about that for now though). Then make your way north. When you get to the mire that slows you, run through it. Don't run too much, because it drains your health to do so. Make your way to the cave, kill everything inside, and get back to the first town as fast as possible. Heal up (and buy a new herb if you used yours), reset the clock, then head across the bridge to the big monster. You should kill it easily, but use your herb if you need to (as always). Then go to the second town, get the medicine for the old man (and buy a shield while you're at it, you should have more than enough cash) and take it back to him. He'll give you a hat that protects you from lightning — so now, the boss pretty much won't be able to harm you at all. Go back to the second town, reset the clock, and head for the boss. You'll drop him in two shakes of a lamb's tail (actually a lot quicker than that — it takes like 3 seconds, tops. :)).

Hope that helps man. Give it another go, this game is really a hell of a lot of fun. I can't wait to get the full version. Oh! And before I forget, it looks like things do carry over from island to island. Your level probably won't, but it seems your money does.

Okay thanks, I will try this out tonight. I didn't think about fighting a couple of guys and then heading back to town. I guess because of the speed of this game, I will have to change my normal way of playing. I did read that the full game should run around 15 hours.

That sounds like a good length for a handheld RPG.

Anyways, good luck.

Yeah, RPG for ADD- my kind of game. It's the reason I always liked Metal Slug games- no level grinding, equipping, endless stories, you just plow on through in a blaze of glory. Awesome. Too bad I don't have a PSP, I'd get this.

Well, it might be a bit different than you expect. You do have to grind and equip, it's just that it only takes a few seconds (literally) to get it done.

Think of it this way: It's the same old JRPG formula, but on speed and crack at the same time. On top of that, the story is pretty silly and self-deprecating (it mostly makes fun of genre tropes).

Guess it doesn't matter though if you don't have a PSP. ;)

If it's only on PSP, good chance I don't get it just based on that... too bad cuz it looks fun.

Yeah, I was gonna bump this thread.

I absolutely love this game. The demo was fun, but the full release is so much better. Getting to save your equipment from stage to stage, trying to earn the titles (which are varied, interesting, and fun to get), improving your time, discovering alternate paths... And there are tons!

On top of that you get a great sense of humour and some wonderful 8-bit graphics. And I haven't really even tried the other 3 modes yet!

This is one of my favourite PSP games so far, and that's really saying something — I love the system.

I picked it up and really dig it.

I finished with the first hero. So far I'm only a few stages in on the second one. Somehow summoning the mosters just doesn't do it for me.

Oh well, I'm going to keep plugging at it. This is a game everyone should try for sure.

two green thumbs up from me!

Awesome game! I am totally hooked on it.... very refreshing approach to the genre. Each stage is like a mini game in itself and this makes it fun for us ADD children :make_fac:

but anyway, thanks for heads-up... all the good (sometimes obscure) handheld titles I usually find out about on here - so thanks everyone for the continued recommendations and input!

the old thirty second hero dude rocks :buttrock:

It seems to me that the Hero 30 section of the game is gonna be the best part.

I did try the Princess 30 section very briefly, though, and it was pretty good too, and had the same sense of humour (her curfew is 30 seconds?!?). I'm just wondering what the Knight 30 section is going to be. Could be fun!

I don't want to drop any spoilers, but something tells me that there will be a final chapter with all the characters. I'm going to max this game out for sure.
