Today I got a used Hantarex 25" Polo - the tube itself is great but I have an annoying problem with a very light diagonal 'wave effect' on screen. I disassembled the Chassis and tried with another Tube, and the effect replicated. This means that there is some problem with the motherboard somewhere.

Anyone has any indication what could be causing this... and if a CAP replacement would solve it?

Thanks!

Cap kit, my friend. The ONLY solution to EVERY problem on a monitor. (Practically)

well it could be a cap but most likely it earth related

Yeah I thought about that too... I connected earth to the monitor's rail thing, but no difference.

Grantspain: is there anything I should check re: earth?

I had some dirty signals on my Mspac...

I connected a ground off the Jamma Harness to the monitor frame.

Ok, here is a small update. I managed to get another chassis for this monitor, I hooked it up and its perfect, except (yes, there is always a catch!), there is some flickering goin on, most obvious towards the corners of the monitor. I then unplugged the degauss cable, and switched the monitor back on. And the flickering is gone.

1. Is it ok to leave the monitor with the degauss unplugged, or that will give other problems?

2. If its not ok, how do I fix this?

Thanks guys!

Degauss coil is just for when the colors get scrambled (due to changes in position/gravity).

You don't need it connected, except when you need to degauss... IN such cases, just plug it in, degauss, and unplug it. Power down between each step.

(As alluded to earlier) Sounds like a video grounding problem, try running an additional ground wire from monitor chassis to the mobo.

Also note that if components are getting old in your power supply it can cause unwanted noise entering your video signal. This isn't the case with yours but for future reference try a different power supply.
