I got a bad copy of Samurai Showdown 2 off Ebay for $25 shipped. The auction listing said it was tested and working perfectly, however it was being sold "as is", in other words, no refunds.

I was pumped when it showed up, but alas the graphics were all messed up. I tried cleaning it and restarting my MVS about 30 times, but no dice.

I'm guessing by the white line down the center of the label it's been opened at one time, but the top 2 screws are so stripped and rusty I cant get them out.

I don't know if its actually a boot. I'm guessing it's just seen a lot of abuse over the years.
You guys have any tips for getting beater carts working?

Resize that please.

Honestly get your money back and buy another one. It's a cheap game. Don't tell him you cleaned it and all that just say it doesn't work.

if worse comes to worse you should mention that it looks like it's been tampered with.

since it was sold as is, the best you can do is fix it, as it only requires basic soldering skill.

open it, :mr_t:

inspect the pcs for cracked solder points, reapply solder as necessary.

Oh also for ebay to honor the "as is" policy of the seller, the words "as is" need to be within the first 2 sentences of the description.

BUT

If the seller listed it as working and it was not working when received paypal will side with you.

I think I found the problem....

After opening the thing up I found that at some time its previous owner must have spilled something on the cart which leaked through the vents. I managed to clean most of the rust off, but I still get bugged out graphics.

Why did you try to fix it? If there is that much rust it could take a lot of effort to fix that $20 game.

There could be rusted solder joints, traces, plate-throughs. Just return it and get your money back.

I don't see what's wrong with it, I mean as long as you play as Wan-Fu you're golden. 30% refund at best. :D

Most likely a trace or multiple traces have damage due to whatever that substance was. Might also be a bad connection to one of the ROMs based on the picture you've posted.

this board holds the graphics (upper chips) and the co processor (Z80) program and graphics chips (lower chips).

looks like the liquid didn´t went thru the epoxi layer covering the pcb, I would concentrate the effords at the chips solder points and the big rusty at the edge connector.

The seller said he'd give me a refund, but I'm still waiting for him to log into paypal and click like 4 buttons. I'm not really sweating it too much, I'm actually kind of glad for the oppertunity to learn a little bit about the boards. Thanks for that tip about which roms do what metalizer. I might spend a little more time trying to clean up those solder points.
