Boot up neo geo ok several times last week...fire up ok today
turn off and power back up
Weird green strip down left hand side.....reset
red screen......poweroff.....reset all connections to make sure nothing loose
very weird screens...resets itself....does not reset via console button
then ..... sniff ...sniff.........mad dash to unplug from wall

machine now smells deep fried and will not work...no smoke seen...ARRGGHH!!!
:very_ang:
My nice shiny Japanese low serial AES feels very broken

I assume its now dead as it smells like components burnt to me

So how do i open the case to see the horror??? Any chance its an easy fix??

PS
That 2 slot is now no 1 priority...looks like all my AES carts will be up for sale...not that I have an sexy ones not all ready listed

Carefully peel off the sticky feet on the bottom and just open it with a screwdriver.

Maybe the PSU crapped out or something. seems odd though.

Thanks for that was wondering if screws hiding somewhere like that

Once I had open at start smell by 4 capacitors at the video out socket, the rom socket and down be the big ol capacitor on the on/off socket at front. Smell strongest at rom socket...but I have major hay fever today so not 100% sure on my smell o meter. Dont really like sniffing capacitors as they are full of all sorts of nasties.

No obvious burnt out tracks/traces, melted capacitors/chips or any sign of blackened solder etc etc... so no physical signs of damage. Ill leave it for a bit go eat and maybe try one more time later on unless someone is 100% that its a dead un..... I know Im fooling myself i m just hoping

Well i risked a quick power on after leaving it unplugged all day...with no cart get weird data display of red and random text, then sort of blue lines followed by fairly solid yellow screen. With a cart I get white line across top of screen and clicks from speaker. Powered down and in my pile o shit collection for now.

Very rude words come to mind at the moment

PS
Thank god it was just a cheap cart in unit at time (one that has worked fine many many times and hours before).... football frenzy BTW if you must know
