I'm looking for the following Mega Play games. I prefer them boxed but it doesn't really matter if they don't have the box or flyer. Also I'm looking for a Sega Mega Tech pcb.

Games:
Columns 3
Gunstar Heroes
Sonic The Hedgehog
Streets Of Rage (Probably doesn't exist but still)
Streets Of Rage 2

Is there an advantage to having one of these over a J-Gen? I've never seen one of these Mega Play boards till now and was kinda wondering what it does. Does it play all Gen carts or just specific ones?

It doesn't play gen carts at all. The carts look like jap genesis carts but in fact are custom versions of the game so they work on arcade machines. Each cart comes with a DIP switch chart which lists things like difficulty level and the amount of lives which can be set separately for each game.

For the Mega-Play they released only 12 games which are pretty hard to come by. If you plan on getting one of these yourself i suggest you start with the Mega-Tech which is alot easier to get and has 56 titles. The main difference between the Mega-Play and the Mega-Tech is the JAMMA interface, Games and use of the second screen. The Mega-Play has a JAMMA interface and no ability to use the second screen present in the dedicated cab to display controls and high score information like the Mega-Tech and resorts to displaying a copy of the main screen. The Mega-Tech has no JAMMA interface so if you get one you need a special loom aswell including a video switcher to display the data on the second screen if you want to hook it up. The other difference is the games. Where the Mega-Play has just Mega-Drive titles the Mega-Tech has master system titles.

Mega Play Titles:
  • Bio-Hazard Battle
  • Columns 3
  • Golden Axe 2
  • Grand Slam
  • Gunstar Heroes
  • Mazin Wars
  • Shinobi 3
  • Sonic The Hedgehog
  • Sonic The Hedgehog 2
  • Streets Of Rage (System16 claims it exists but it doesn't mailed them but they won't delete it from the list)
  • Streets Of Rage 2
  • Tecmo World Cup

The Mega-Play cabinet looks the same as the Mega-Tech cabinet with the difference that the sideart and the marquee is different. Sega also took the lazy road while making the Mega-Play they included a JAMMA interface but they don't use it. Instead of that they included all the connectors from the Mega-Tech so the old cabs could be used. For the second screen which wasn't needed anymore they took some splitters and took the feed of the main screen.

If you have any more questions just ask :) I'm also making a small website with more info and about the games. The site will also include scans from the manuals and all other detailed information about this cab.

Can't help ya out, but great info. I never knew that system existed. I don't recall ever seeing a machine here in the States.
